East Ruston Cottages

Rooster Barn, Trunch

Sleeps 4

Rooster Barn is one of our most popular properties and gets easily booked all year round. It is a beautiful barn conversion at the end of a private drive in a quiet part of the already peaceful village of Trunch. The conversion has been done to a very high standard and is mostly on the ground floor with pamment floors throughout, underfloor heating and a gorgeous wood burner. There are exposed original beams all through the building. Outside there is a patio, an enclosed area of gravel and a large grass garden surrounded by secure fencing.

Trunch has a well stocked village shop/post office and a dog friendly pub (both only a three minute walk away) and the beaches are easily accessible a short drive away. The nearest, Mundesley, has been given Blue Flag status in for 2015/16. It’s an ideal location from which to explore much of North Norfolk.

When you arrive: Turn off the Mundesley Road (B road) and onto the private gravel drive. Rooster Barn is located at the end of this drive and accessed through the wooden 6 bar gate where there is plenty of parking. Go in through the door at the end of the building leading into the….

Kitchen: Fully fitted kitchen with electric oven and hob, fridge freezer, integrated dishwasher, microwave and plenty of crockery and cookware. Large cupboard off to one side with boiler, storage space and washing machine, ironing board, large crate etc. The old iron stable grills have been left in as feature. On the other side of these is the…

Dining area: Pine table and chairs in a very cosy area with a beautiful painted wood dresser and music system. The table is next to the double sided wood burner on the other side of which is the….

Living area: Plenty of comfy seating in a very comfortable and relaxing area. Carved oak chest, occasional tables, lamps and plenty of decorative china and pictures and a flat screen tv/dvd player. Large oak framed patio doors lead to the gravelled garden and patio outside. Off this room is the…

Downstairs bathroom: Shower cubicle, toilet and sink. Fully tiled and plenty of room.

Master bedroom: Double bed in a well appointed room with plenty of hanging and storage space and a well fitted ensuite bath room with a bath and over bath shower.

Paddle staircase: (steep and not ideal for those with mobility problems but easy to get up and down when you know how and handrails to help) leads to balcony over looking the main living area and …

Upstairs bedroom: Enchanting and comfortable beamed eaves (low beams) room with twin beds which can also be a superking double, bedside cabinets, easy chair and canvas wardrobe. Small window level with the floor opens up with a view down into the gravelled area at the back of the barn.

Outside: There is a lovely south facing patio and a gravelled area around the house together with a large grass paddock area. The whole of the property is gated and well fenced around the perimeter with a combination of post and rail fencing with stock mesh (smaller at the bottom to stop very small dogs squeezing through), solid fence panels and a mix of fencing plus planting. At the lowest point it is approx 4ft. Rooster Barn grounds are mature and include an attractive planting of shrubs and hedge plants. The main garden is laid to lawn with plenty of space for your dogs to exercise in a safe and secure space.

Extra guests or visitors: There is an electric hook up point in the paddock/garden area and this can be rented for £15/day for caravans and campervans.

How To Find Us:

How to find us: Rooster Barn, Mundesley Road, Trunch NR28 0QB

Or – from the A149 North Walsham by pass, turn onto the B1145, Lyngate Road heading towards Swafield. Just into Swafield the road bears sharp right. Go STRAIGHT on here towards Trunch. When you reach the village shop (approx 1 mile) turn right. There are two possible turnings so if you miss one, the other will do. If you take the first one you will go past the Crown pub and at the junction go straight over (and slightly downhill) onto the Mundesley Road. If you take the second one, you will need to take the first left onto the Mundesley Road. The drive way to Rooster Barn is signposted on the left and is opposite a small road junction. Rooster Barn is at the top of the drive, though the gateway.

Some comments from our guestbook

Our 3rd visit to Rooster Barn. And what a fantastic 2 weeks we have had with the weather. We had some great walks, great food and great beer. You must try the Sunday roast at the ‘Crown’ at the top of the road – you wont be disappointed! Think we’ve worn out Abby the lurcher - she's going home for a rest! See you next year! Thanks for the fabulous welcome pack

John – September 2017

We have had a lovely stay in the beautiful Rooster Barn which has everything needed for a great holiday. The board games came in handy midweek when the weather was a but wet! The rest of the time we have enjoyed the garden, re-visited favourite places (Happisburgh, Cart Gap, Sea Palling, Waxham and Felbrigg Hall) and enjoyed new ones too – Wells Next To Sea and Holkham. The welcome pack for us and the dogs was wonderful – thank you!

Anne, John and Naomi – August 2017

We’ve had a wonderful stay at Rooster Barn! The house was beautiful and made us feel right at home and the dogs loved the garden! Our stay has been superb and we would come again next year! Thank you for our wonderful holiday

Helen and Dan – July 2017

Fantastic stay! Thank you for the delicious goodies. Lots of walking, biking and running for us. Lovely seafood meal at Rocky Bottoms in West Runton and fab crab from Andy’s crab hut too. Great day out on the broads – the dogs loved the boat. Some toddler fun at Bewilderwood too – amazing for kids. Hope to come back again soon.

Claire, Luke and Greta – June 2017

We've had a great time here at Rooster Barn - a lovely, comfortable and clean barn with everything we've needed for us and our dog (black lab) Rio! This was our first time in North Norfolk and we've really enjoyed exploring the fab beaches and little villages. Everywhere has been so dog friendly and Rio has been fussed, welcomed and give treats throughout in many pubs, shops and even in the centre of Norwich! Some highlights for us were: Wells & Trimmingham (really tricky to find - try googling for Trimmingham to get some 'rough directions'!) beaches, Wells Town, Holt & just generally everywhere! We ate at The Ship in Mundesley - Sunday roast dinner was very nice and huge portions! The Vernon Arms really lovely, great food (they don't do food on Sunday's so watch out) The Foundary Arms - nice but The Vernon Arms was our fave! We go a takeaway from The Chubby Panda - just 'OK', unforutnately the Thai place has moved. Overall a fab fortnight and we're sad to go home! Thank you so much for all the lovely treats on arrival - a lovely thought and much appreciated.

May 2017

Another wonderful week, fluffies enjoyed playing in the garden, lovely and relaxing for the humans. Look forward to our extra long stay in December.

Jenny, Paul, Henry, Hazel, Evie, Ollie & Lilly - April 2017

We have enjoyed a lovely relaxing week in this beautiful barn. Thank you for making the dogs so welcome as well as us.

Val, Tim, Willow, Lily & Ruby - April 2017

Absolutely lovely barn, great area for visiting. We ate at the Vernon Arms - great food and dogs welcome but you need to book as very busy! In Cromer we ;pved the The Rocket (Lifeboat Museum) which had lovely food and great coffee, dogs welcome on the verander which overlooks the sea and the pier. We have all had a super holiday - only wish we had booked for 2 weeks.

April 2017

First return to Rooster since June 2013, still as special and magical as ever! Thank you E.R.C for the welcome pack (both human and dog friendly). Another very relaxing week with great weather and plenty to do. Many Thanks.

Drue, Peter & Maggie (Westie) - April 2017

What a wonderful area to explore and beautiful barn to return home to each day. We've all enjoyed the beaches at Mundesley and coffee and cake at The Corner House. Lovely trip out to Salthouse Heath, Sheringham & Cromer! Hope to return again next year, if not sooner!

Jane, Dave, Tom & Calley and Rosie, Lily & Ruby - March 2017

We've had yet another lovely stay at Rooster Barn. A real home from home....Mark,me and our three pooches feel very comfortable here. We've been so lucky with the weather whilst we've been here with just a bit of rain at the beginning of the week. We've enjoyed lots of lovely walks on the beaches including Sea Palling, Mundesley, Bacton, Overstrand, Horsey and Waxham. Obviously no trip to Norfolk would be complete for us without a visit to see the seals and their pups on the beach - a sight which never fails to amaze us. Tried many, many of the pubs in the area and found them all to be very dog friendly - Our very favourite being The Gunton Arms - absolutely love it there. Really enjoyed our much needed week away

Katy and Mark, and Millie, Boycie and Lulu - November 2016

What a fantastic place for a holiday, home from home for sure! We love Rooster Barn - everything you need and more! Great location to explore North Norfolk and all it has to offer. Long dog walks on the beach, relaxing coffee, afternoon teas and much more. Sheringham Park is beautiful, Funky Mackerel cafe is just fab! Fish and chips from North Walsham (opposite Sainsburys) great, but expect a wait. Great beach walk from Overstrand to Cromer, lots to do for all of the family. Thank you once again, booked for next year already

Johnathan and Sarah - October 2016

Wow! These two weeks just flew by! Been very lucky with the weather and only actually got wet once so can't complain. We've been to Sheringham Park, Felbrigg Hall, Holkham Hall, Bacton Woods, West Runton, Beeston Regis Heath, Blickling estate (nice lake walk), coast path Weybourne to Sheringham is lovely, coast path at West Runton, beach at Trimingham (bit tricky to find), Cromer (great gluten free chips at No 1) and very bracing walk at Overstrand (nearly blown off our feet). We have 3 very tired dogs who loved the garden for chasing around. Gunton Arms for lunch, food was lovely, if you want to go for dinner, book early as we couldnt get in because they were full.

Jennie and Ian and lurchers Lexie and Rafftery and Whippet Kiira - October 2016

Well! Not sure what to say! We have had a magical week at Rooster Barn, Probably the best appointed cottage we have ever stayed in, right down to the seafood dining set we used to prepare our lobster from Overstrand. Cottage so so comfortable - loved it! Weather wasn't on our side this week but we still managed some marvellous walks and visits. Holkham Bay to Wells is a favourite and it was sunny! Mundesley was a lovely new discovery and we had a lovely lunch at the Ship Inn in the garden overlooking the beach. Lovely walk from Overstrand to Northhrepps - past the 'shrieking pits' and a very impressive bull! Nice walk on a wet afternoon through Pigneys Wood - very pretty, and then ended today (last day) at Sheringham Park - really picturesque park and woodland - worth a visit. Had a light lunch with the dogs at the Gunton Arms, this is a favourite of ours. Thank you for the welcome pack - the dogs have loved the treats (as have we) and both of them are happily exhausted after a fantastic walk. Love, love, love, Norfolk - we will be back soon.

Michelle, Diana Pip and Ollie - October 2016

Had an amazing week discovering the beauty of the Norfolk coast with its fantastic weather. Rooster Barn is a great base for all those lovely beaches - we particularly liked Happisburgh and Mundesley for doggie swimming. Horsey and the seals was brilliant and Holkham a wonderful beach but a long way to the sea! We enjoyed eating at the Vernon Arms and had a great meal on our final day at the Gunton Arms. We ate once at the Crown Inn and the local shop is well stocked and everyone weve met has been very friendly. Nash our golden retriever has had a fantastic time . He has come home each evening exhausted. . He is really looking forward to coming back to a part of the world soon to explore further. Thanks for a lovely relaxing week

Lorraine, Adam and Nash - September 2016

A huge heartfelt thank you for such a fantastic break in this gorgeous barn in a beautiful part of the country. Rooster Barn has been a wonderful home from home for us all and we are travelling home this morning refreshed and relaxed though just a little bit sad (and very sleepy too!) East Ruston Cottages have helped make this long overdue break perfect - thank you

Ally and Fin - September 2016

Our first stay at Rooster Barn has been really enjoyable. Plenty of things to see and do with our dog, including Bacton Woods and Happisburgh. This is the most dog-friendly holiday cottage we have rented. Looking forward to returning

Denise, and Chris and Amber - July 2016

Wonderful peaceful week at Rooster Barn - many thanks for letting us and the dogs stay in such a well-appointed cottage and for a great welcome pack. We tried to get to Trimingham beach but sadly, a cliff cottage has blocked access. Bacton beach is a great alternative for the dogs. Miles of sand and completely empty (avoid promenade area as not open to dogs in summer). Looking forward to next time.

Annette and Neil, Sophie, Rose, Dylan and Ollie - June 2016

Our first stay at Rooster Barn and it definitely wont be our last! Had a lovely relaxing week resting and walking. Found some lovely walks, especially at Bacton Woods which had long and short walks which was ideal for our oldest dog. Trimingham beach was also a real find. The barn was fantastic and perfect for all our needs, especially the large garden. The welcome pack was also fantastic - lovely cake and the doggies loved the treats. Sorry to have to leave this wonderful place but already looking forward to the next visit

Our second visit after 9 years. Lots of dog friendly places to visit and we've had a good time. We always said we'd come back. Had some friends from Norwich come to visit and they loved Rooster Barn as we do. Good position, handy shop and very comfortable. Loved all the goodies, thank you and Mabel our Staffie, had a ball. Just couldnt get her in from outside, she's had so much exercise.

Tony and Anita and a woof from Mabel - May 2016

Have had a lovely time. Great weather and lovely long walks. Looking forward to coming back in November. Four happy ladies and four happy, tired dogs.

Dawn, Linda, Jeanette and Deb and Oscar, Alfie, Gilla and Molly - May 2016

What a great place to stay! Thank you for sharing Rooster Barn, it has immediately become one of our favourite holidays. Such a well thought out conversion, we have really not minded the rainy days because it has meant we can cosy up in front of the fire and work our way through the board games. Flo appreciated the extensive grounds that she could patrol safely! I really enjoyed staying here and I particularly enjoyed playing Chatterbox and creating new categories. The location was beautiful and close to all our favourite beaches. Thank you (Evie). Lovely weekend spent at Rooster Barn - can highly recommend Horsey Gap, Bacton Woods and of course, Holkham/Wells beaches. Hope to return next year.

Sally and Evie - April 2016

Our twelve mongrel darlings thoroughly enjoyed themselves and fully respected the wonderful location and characterful, cosy cottage. This is our first visit to Norfolk and we all enjoyed the varied and interesting choice of amenities that this area has to offer. This will be the first of many visits I'm sure. Thank you for such a lovely cottage and dog friendly facilities. All 12 are thoroughly shattered, though grinning from ear to ear.

Our third stay at Rooster Barn with our 5 cocker spaniels! We have absolutely fallen in love with it here! The welcome pack is fabulous, the garden is so safe for all dogs and we love the log burner. We found some amazing beaches - Holkham was our favourite and definitely worth the drive! Winterton was another great find and the dogs loved exploring the dunes. Saw lots of seals at Horsey beach though the dogs were bemused that something else should be on their beach! Cant wait for our next visit

Cardine, Steve and the 5 worn out pooches, Ella, Tilly, Nora, Gus and Star - February 2016

We've had a fantastic time - thank you and we have already booked for next year. Couldn't fault anything. Welcome pack was well received all round. What a lovely place to spend a long weekend. It was perfect for our 'special needs' springer. He really relaxed and enjoyed watching out of all the windows. Long walks, warm fire, good food - perfect. Thank you for our goodies in the welcome pack. Much appreciated. Riley really enjoyed the hand baked biscuits. Our first stay with you but we hope to come back soon

Inez Greg and Riley - January 2016

Our first stay at Rooster Barn and we loved it! The paddock was fab for our active dog. He's going to feel quite claustrophic back home in the garden. We can recommend the Vernon Arms for a meal - its a great pub with friendly staff and the food is great. Looking forward to our return in October.

Sue, Les and Otis - January 2016

We've had a lovely relaxing week staying at Rooster Barn, Trunch. Its been a lovely place to stay and absolutely fabulous for our 3 dogs. We've been so luck with the weather. It rained on Monday but was positively tropical on Wednesday and Friday. Have had a really lazy week and have eaten out every day. Tried The Vernon Arms, Poachers Pocket, The Ship, The Nelsons Head, - all good but loved the Gunton Arms where you can have a really gamey meal surrounded by artwork from Tracy Emin and Damien Hirst. Its situated in a deer park too....loved it! Obviously a trip to Norfolk wouldnt be complete without going to see the seals and their pups at Horsey beach and Waxham beach. Never fails to amaze us!! The beaches are truly amazing for walking the dogs, Sea Palling being our favourite. The dogs absolutely loved it. Just what the doctor and the vet ordered. Cant wait to come back again.

Katie and Mark - December 2015

What a lovely cottage. Everything we could want / need is here for us and the dogs. Can recommend the Vernon Arms but didnt have time to visit The Star at Lessingham which we usually visit. Overstrand beach was a first for us, thanks for the recommendation. Sea Pallilng is our favourite beach and hummingbird cake at Sugar and Spice on the way back at Bacton. Thanks for letting us stay at such a fabulous cottage. Will definitely return - if there is any availability!

Mark and Alison - November 2015

What a beautiful place. And as for the welcome pack, that was lovely. Abby (lurcher) said a very big thank you for her goodies, she loved the fish treats – we had to go and buy her some to take home! We couldnt fault one thing, so have rebooked for next year. Most of the pubs were dog friendly and Abby has made loads of doggy friends along the lovely beaches. My parents came down for a couple of days and they said it it the BEST holiday barn they have stayed it – and they have stayed in loads and loads. Well done Rooster Barn team! See you next year

Lee, Malcolm, Poppie and Pepsi – July 2015

Delightful barn and so well provisioned! We did not lack for anything. Favourite local eatery – The Vernon Arms. Favourite beach – Sea Palling. Favourite wooded walk – Felbrigg Hall. All three of us have had a very enjoyable week.

Pam, Vic and Bowie (the retriever) – July 2015

Our third visit – love this place! Essentially here to visit relatives, but also to recharge batteries and explore. Our favourite eateries this time, in order, were The Gunton Arms, The Vernon Arms, Waterside and Rollesby and The Star at Lessingham. Best day out was at the East Ruston Old Vicarage Gardens – totally stunning! Good Chinese takeaway from The Chubby Panda – good value for money. Huge portions from Bacton Fish and Chips as always. Dogs loved Bacton Woods, beaches at Sea Palling and Happisburgh Lighthouse and clifftop walk from Overstrand (mustnt forget crabs from Overstrand). Almost forgot to mention the lovely crab salad at The Rising Sun at Coltishall on the river – with a VERY angry swan.

Neil, Karen, Tilly and Lola – June 2015

Four old ladies and four dogs arrived to have a fun week away. We have had a great time. Walks in the doorstep and fantastic views. Mundesley beach is great for walking the dogs. Wells Next The Sea is very pretty. Rooster Barn is very cosy, especially with the log fire burning at night. Four very happy old ladies going home and four tired dogs would love to come back.

Dawn, Deb, Linda and Jeannette, Alfie, Mollie, Oscar and Ella - June 2015

Another wonderful relaxing week at Rooster Barn. Lots of lovely dog walks and fabulous sea food, the scallops this year were the best ever. Looking forward to our week next year already.

Nicki, Scott, Holly, Morgan, Summer and Dave – May 2015

Lovely stay in Rooster Barn. So great for us to have found a comfortable place to stay with our dogs. Almost daily walks at Sea Palling, eating at the Anchor, Morston Quay, our favourite – The Recruiting Sergeant at Horstead, The Vernon Arms at Southrepps and The Globe at Wells, Wells beach, so fantastic, Holt and Burnham Market. The weather as usual, wasnt too kind, but Rooster Barn was so homely and the dogs were very settled and happy. Thank you for the welcome pack too, the dogs loved the biscuits.

….Amen to all the above! We have so enjoyed this cosy retreat. I was up in the little room in the eaves and it is absolutely delightful.

Sarah, Lucy and Jen, Sandra, Brian, Izzie and Phantom - May 2015

PS For people new to the area, Wells beach is fantastic for dogs, remember that when you arrive in the car park, it say 'No Dogs' but just go down to your left and you will find steps to the beach. For dogs, go left and you have miles of beach dunes.

First time here in Norfolk. Rooster Barn has everything you could possibly need for a 'home from home'. Great to find so many dog friendly places, especially the pubs!

Anne, Gary, Craig, Miya and Tallulah - May 2015

Rooster Barn is the best self catering cottage in which we have stayed – everything is just so! We will definitely be back. Sue has been very helpful and her husband Dermot fixed a problem with the boiler very quickly. We love the area and in particular those long sandy beaches. Our 3 dogs made themselves comfortable. One of our dogs was not very well and was helped very efficiently by the caring vet at Stalham. Cromer crab from Overstrand was delicious and Mundesley beach is great, especially at low tide. The Ship at Mundesley is a really nice pub with friendly people. The cliff walk from Mundesley to Cromer is wonderful!
John and Pauline - March 2015

What a wonderful holiday cottage! Its certainly the best week away in self catering accommodation we’ve had with our cockers! We were very lucky with the weather and have had some beautiful sunny days. The dogs have loved Sheringham Park, Felbrigg Hall parkland and their favourite was Sea Palling beach. The Gunton Arms was our favourite pub and the Star at Lessingham and the Hill House at Happisbugh were great too. We’ve met some very interesting people during the week and we can’t wait to back at the end of the wedding season in Oct/Nov! Many thanks

Mike and Rebecca – March 2015

Thank you for another fabulous holiday! Rooster Barn was as perfect as ever and the welcome pack just gets better and better- we especially enjoyed the fudge this year. We love north Norfolk and having room for our two daughters to come up from London to use it too makes it extra special. Reg was an only dog this year but, as usual, had a ball. Thanks again,
Mike, Sue and Reg - February 2015

I love coming to Norfolk, we have great fun walking along to the long spread beaches. For the first time we have got to the tank museum, it’s great for both kids and adults.
Edward (age 11) - February 2015

This is our 3rd Stay at Rooster barn. It’s such a perfect holiday home, already booked to come back. We took a trip on a steam train to Holt, and the atmosphere was lovely, even the dog liked it. Lots of fantastic beach walks, all ending with a well earned hot chocolate! Found a great café right on the beach at Sheringham. Thank you.
February 2015

Our second trip to Rooster Barn and it was even better than our first. Gorgeous barn, cosy log fire and what a lovely welcome park (bang goes the diet!) We had some amazing walks, Bacton Woods, Happisburgh beach and Sheringham Park. Such a lovely place for a winter break and all five of our cockers loved trying to find a hole in the fence to chase the rabbits! Thank you for making such a dog safe garden. We will be back and hope to make this our annual winter haven! Many thanks
Caroline and Steve Feb 2015

What an absolutely fantastic cottage, really don't want to go home! The welcome pack was first class, as soon as I opened the dog biscuits Kea sat and watched them until she could eat them! So good we have been and bought some more! Lovely walks, fantastic beaches. Sunday lunch at Vernon Arms, Southrepps a MUST, but book - very busy. Happisburgh beach - lovely and spacious and hardly anyone else there. Cromer to Sheringham laong he beach both ways, 9 miles approx. Wells Next the Sea - past where no dogs allowed, lovely beach.
Katie, Adam and Kea - January 2015

We have had a fantastic New Year break at Rooster Barn, best place we have stayed, really comfy and everything you could want was provided and the welcome pack was great. We lit the fire, it got so warm we had to turn the heating off. Fantastic walks with the dogs, we liked Happisburgh beach, plenty of room for them to chase about. Didn't like Overstrand, too steep and no beach for the dogs to run on. Loved Sheringham Park, walked right down to the sea cliffs. Make sure you take your NT card otherwise the car park is £4.80. Take a look at Sheringham station, even if you don't go on the steam train it's worth a look. We went on the Mince Pie Special to Holt, had a lovely time shopping in Holt, lots of independent shops. We will be back to Rooster Barn!!
Dave, Bev , Sara and Alan with Hollie, Misty, Max and Archie - January 2015

Thank you for such a lovely welcome pack. The Xmas decorations are just first class, we had such a lovely relaxing Christmas in this lovely barn. The dogs have had a lovely time and are going home for a rest.
Sasha, Jason and Jean with Ozzy, Bertie, Charlie and Becky - December 2014

We had a wonderful relaxing time at this beautiful cottage. We felt at home the moment we stepped in the door. The Crab Cafe at Wells Next the Sea was divine, nice seaside town to visit and amusements for children. Candy's (dog) first holiday, she was perfect and the safe garden was just what we needed. Looking forward to our next visit.
Linda, Jim and Candy - December 2014

Rooster Barm, what can I say. Just beautiful. We've had a fantastic break, wonderful beach and wood walks, friendly pubs, dogs welcome, very good food, Crown Inn local, The Ship Mundesley. Welcome pack was lovely. Many thanks and look forward to coming back again to Rooster Bar.
Sarah, Phil and the girls - December 2014

Had a great time here at Rooster Barn. The dogs, Eli and Albert, particularly enjoyed the space outside to run around. Welcome pack was lovely, especially the eggs. A come again place, as with all the East Ruston Cottages.

- November 2014

Beautiful barn, nice quiet and safe location for the girls Lola and Golly. Visited Felbrigg Hall and Estate (NT), you don't have to be a member to enjoy some fantastic walks on the estate. Follow the trails and you shouldn't get lost. Also enjoyed local walks, especially the beach at Overstrand. Must recommend the Ship Inn and Gunton Arms, both do great food, the latter is located on a deer park so well worth a visit. We had to use Westover Vet Service as Lola had a PYO and had to have an emergency operation, can say they were fantastic. In spite of this we had a great week.
Brian, Diane, Lola and Golly - October 2014

Had a wonderful time. We visited The Vernon Arms, The Crown and other local pubs. Went to Mundesley, Sheringham which we love, and Sea Palling. The dogs loved the paddock area, there is so much to do here. It was just what we needed, thank you.

Sue, Jeff, Coco, Casie, Hetty, Daisy and Sophie - August 2014

We had a wonderful stay thank you. Visited Mundesley beach, Bacton Woods, Cromer, North Walsham and Hickling Broad, all lovely. Ate at the Greyhound at Hickling, dog friendly and The Ship at Mundesley - dog friendly too. The dogs had a lovely time, paddock is dog perfect. Thanks for being just a phone call away Sue, your advice is invaluable.
Marcia, John, Charley and Holly with Mouse and Mini - August 2014

Perfectly quiet, well equipped and great location to explore from. The dogs loved the enclosed garden and shouting at the rabbits and pigeons. Recommend the Bacton Fish & Chips, worth a drive. Note that The Ship at Mundesley has limited menu on Thursday nights, but a good range of specials and varied menu otherwise. Visit the beach at Mundesley before 7am, not a soul about. Thanks for a great place to stay.
Steve, Deb, T.J., Bruce and Lola - July 2014

Nice amount of room to play in. Recommend the Ship Inn, Thursdays are curry nights. I enjoyed the arcade near the Ship Inn. The paddle steps are steep so if you have a child, bring 1 of the beds down. It was a brilliant week here and a brilliant place to stay.
Travis, aged 9 - July 2014

Our first visit to the Barn - fabulous place and glad to say back in November, how lucky are we! Places we had meals:- The local Crown Inn - pub grub, very nice. Vernon Arms, Southrepps - good but not as good as the Ship. The Ship, Mundesley - great food. National Trust, Sheringham, lovely place - dogs enjoyed a change from the beach. Roll on November!
Marguerite, Karen and Alan with dogs Maggie, Flynn and Fletch - June 2014

Well we've had an excellent holiday here at 'Rooster'. All started with a very nice welcome pack. The weather has been fabulous so we didn't test the underfloor heating and the wood stove. We had some very nice walks, including from here to Knapton and Mundesley, Happisburgh and Overstrand, and eaten at the Crown just up the road, Vernon Arms, Gunton Arms and the White Horse at Overstrand. All very enjoyable and Max, our Chocolate Lab, has been everywhere with us. Hope to return some time soon, maybe when it's colder to test the wood stove.
David and Sandra with Max - July 2014

Delightful stay. Hopefully we will return. Dogs loved the garden and the genuine dog welcome was so refreshing. Thanks to the lovely cleaning lady for coming in on Saturday, we are very lazy!
Astrid, Josip, Rupert and Molly - July 2014

Once again we enjoyed our week at Rooster Barn and it really is a lovely place. Every time we get home we think we must go somewhere different next year, but still come back, it really has everything. Thanks for the welcome pack.
Dave, Sandy and Ollie - June 2014

How beautiful Norfolk is .... my grandparents hosted family holidays at Wells, we are constantly finding new things like Cart Gap beach, the Cathedral of the Broads and the parkland at Felbrigg. Best bit is relaxing in the garden, or at the Crown. Our guests were as enchanted as us. Thank you Sue, Derm and the owners for being so generous to let us stay, it is beautiful. PS we have named the owl Edward after Edward Lear. Recommend Hill House Beer Festival (on until 23rd) at Happisburgh to the next guests an Molly has donated a spare lobber in lieu of the tennis ball!
Ken, Bernice and Molly dog and Sue, Brian, Emily and Ollie, our visitors - June 2014

Rooster Barn - Cock-a-Doodle dandy! Came with friends who are dog owners, but accommodation excellent for non doggy people too. Very clean and comfortable and everything provided that one needs. Even the weather was pleasantly warm and sunny - pretty good for early June! Enjoyed exploring locally and a little further afield. Have had some very good wildlife sightings including foxes, damselflies, dragonflies, frogs and birds. Highly recommended.
Esther and John - June 2014

Our first stay at Rooster Barn. We have stayed at other East Ruston Cotttages and this one is every bit as good as the others. Our four dogs loved the big garden. Very lucky with the weather (we only had one wet dog) and managed lots of walks in Pigney Woods, Bacton Woods, Happisburgh beach (lovely breakfast at Smallsticks Cafe, Sea Palling) and Southrepps, as well as locally. Will definately be coming back!!
Julie and Rod with Indy Max, Ruby and Scuff - June 2014

Our first stay at Rooster Barn but not North Norfolk. Very lucky with the weather, a great week. Rooster Barn very well equipped (look forward to wifi), good to have the garden for the dogs and ample space. Recommend Holkham beach (not that far), Brancaster too, good for the dogs. Vernon Arms good fish and chip takeaway and also if you want somewhere off the beaten track for a nice old fashioned village 'feel', then Heydon is highly recommended with excellent tea shop and a walk around the private house grounds. Vicarage Gardens at East Ruston as good as ever, 3rd visit, so much better than Priory Gardens for a similar entrance fee.
Mark, Geraldine, Kai and Jessie - May 2014

Our first stay in Rooster Barn and Norfolk and what a fansastic time it has been! The Barn is beautiful and so well equipped and welcoming and Norfolk is full of surprises. We loved Bewilderwood and walking around Holt with it's lovely shops and restaurants. My 4 year old has decided he is going to kidnap the next visitors who arrive on Saturday so that we can stay longer!
Emma and family - April 2014

So good I am coming back for my honeymoon!
Archie, aged 10 - April 2014

Beautiful barn, extremely clean and well equipped! Dogs ,oved the garden but not so sure about the stairs which only one attempted - heaven knows how he managed it!! Silly boy. Had a lovely time on the beaches and looking around the Broads - very lucky with the weather too! Big thanks to Elsa who keeps it so clean. Many thanks.
Vicky, Tony, Gracie, Maddie with Sandy and Bod (we enjoyed seeing a wabbit or 2!) - April 2014

We have had one of the best hols ever. Our 4 dogs have enjoyed the beaches and the dog friendly places, and people have been wonderful! We will be back. The Barn had everything we could have wanted. Thank you.
Belinda and Nigel with Bely, Maisy, Floss and Dolly - April 2014

We've had a lovely week in Norfolk. The Barn was excellent - everything you could possibly want and more. Lots of walks on the beaches and in the woods with our 4 labradors, great weather was a bonus! Thank you so much.
Michelle and Jesse with Matty, Blue, Minstrel and Jess - March 2014

Second visit, just as perfect as the first, we will be back!
Nicola and Ken with Candy and Toby - March 2014

What a wonderful week in a beautiful, peaceful spot. So lucky with the weather and managed to get lots of days out with the dogs and baby! Be back again soon, thank you.
Leanne - February 2014

Had a fantastic week at Rooster Barn. Would definately come back for another holiday with our four dogs Lily, Holly, Dexter and Jake. We had great weather all week. Lovely walks along the beach and at Felbrigg which was our favourite. Good food at the Vernon Arms in Southrepps.
Sharon and John - February 2014

Amazing welcome! Rooster Barn is perfect in every way. Everything has been thought of even down to the dog poo bags. The weather hasn't been great but we haven't let it spoil our stay. Loved the log burner. Blaze kept stealing the logs, she thought they were left for her to play with. The under floor heating was a God send. Rooster Barn is in a perfect location and all the shops are relatively near by. The locals are very frendly. We will definately come back again, hopefully when it's warmer! Thank you !!
Jordan, Diane and Blaze - February 2014

Our sixth stay at Rooster Barn and we were a little apprehensive this time with the change of owners. But it's been even more fantastic than ever! The new fenced in garden has been a real bonus, the beds are extra comfy and dog treats a great idea. This year was our new dog Reggie's first holiday and he adored Norfolk, especially the runs on the beaches. Ruby (older dog) appreciates the under floor heating. As ever we don't want to leave and wish we could live in Rooster Barn forever. Thanks for making it magical once again.
Mike, Sue and Emily with Ruby and Reggie - February 2014

Our second stay at Rooster Barn - this time with our toddler who hadn't arrived last time! We loved it just as much this year and will definately be back again. The weather was bleak but it didn't ruin our stay. Lovely walks in Sheringham Park, Bacton Woods and Mundesley Beach. Fantastic Sunday lunch at Vernon Arms - tip, book first! Nerarly didn't get a table. The welcome pack was much appreciated - I've never tasted such amazing chocolate brownies!! See you again soon.
Lucy and family - January 2014

This was our 2nd stay at Rooster Barn. We found everything we needed. Thanks so much for the welcome pack, it was lovely to have a nice cup of tea and a slice of homemade cake after a very long drive. Really liked the new people in the Crown Inn. Be back very soon.
Teresa, David, Colin, Finlay and Alfie the dog - January 2014

What a fantastic place. Sadly we chose the week after the storms, so no beaches!! Forest walks more than made up for it. Would love to have stayed longer but our collie 'Flute' needs to go home for a rest!! Perfect weather for a perfect week. Would recommend this lovely barn to anyone. Thank you.
Ann, Liz and Flute - December 2013

Thank you for the lovely welcome pack. Our batteries are now recharged. Excellent food at the Vernon Arms.
Jean, Joy and Tilly (woof woof) - December 2013

Thank you for a lovely stay. What a really dog friendly place this is. Our 'Beardies' Wilfred and Nevil loved it as much as us. The floor was Beadie proof and the garden is great as they like to spend time 'outside' taking in the air! Welcome pack is a nice touch and the Barn is warm and welcoming. We loved the log burner, very cosy and snug. It was nice to return to the barn after a day out walking the lovely beaches and woods recommended. Thanks
Lynne, Richard Wilf and Nev - November 2013

Another fabulous week in Norfolk. Rooster Barn is gorgeous, so relaxing and cosy. We were thankful for a few cold nights so we could light the woodburner - so beautiful. We are grateful for a property to stay in which allows several dogs - thank you. We enjoyed so many lovely days out - Bacton Woods, Sea Palling beach, Winterton-on-sea all great for the dogs, also Felbrigg and Blicking Estates. Thank you.
Fran, Ian with dogs - November 2013

Rooster Barn was fun. We had a good laugh with the board games. We went to a tree climbing thing called Extreme. We went on a lot of beach walks. Our dog enjoyed her stay too.
Edward, age 10 - November 2013

Rooster Barn was perfect! We all loved our stay in the barn, it has everything a family and dog could need. Children and teenagers have lots of fun activities to do, lots of beautiful walks, boat trips on the Broads and many fun action filled parks like Bewilderwood and Extreeme Climbing. We plan to come back. I can't wait to come back to Rooster Barn.
Katie - November 2013

Rooster Barn is just beautiful in every way. With 2 children and a dog, there was so much to do and see. Bacton Woods, Priory Maze (does a lovely lunch), local beach walks, boat trip on the broads. On your last visitors recommendation we went to the wildlife visitors centre at Ranworth, brilliant place to watch the birds. The Maltsters for lunch there's a must. Could not wish for anything more from a perfect holiday home!!
Sarah and Jonathan - November 2013

A glorious week here that has exceeded our expectations in every way! Loved the beautiful Rooster Barn, the welcome pack, the friendly, helpful locals, delightful dog walks and good pubs! All beaches are glorious and seem to stretch for miles - will we be back? Of course we will - there is so much more to see!
Neil and Karan with Tilly and Lola - October 2013

I could live in the beautiful Rooster Barn! And Dusty, Wilf and Mouse were very much at home too. The life was easier once Sue sorted the back fence out. It is almost Whippet proof now!! Last night I did catch sight of the Muntjac Mouse and Wilf obviously chased into the field. Really inpressed with what is provided and the Welcome Pack is brilliant. A couple more throws to protect the furniture is all that is missing.
Sarah with Wilf, Dusty and Mouse - October 2013

We have had a very pleasant week in your wonderful Barn. Looks and equipment and decor beautiful and weather very good. All best wishes.
Cliff and Kath - September 2013

Thanks for the lovely stay at Rooster Barn , the Barn was fantastic, the welcome pack was much appreciated and such a cosy place to stay in. If only we could have had this for our own place to live in. Hope to come back once again, thank you.
Erik - September 2013

Our 3rd stay in the Barn - it really is a lovely place. Very impressed this year with the fenced garden - nice to let dog out and know he can't go far. Also very nice to have the information and welcome packs, something we've not had here before, thanks for that. The upstairs room looks nice now, almost a shame to use it. It's been a terrific week weather wise, so everything has made for a very enjoyable week.
Dave, Sandy and Olly - September 2013

What a lovely place, superb accommodation and a wonderful setting. The dogs (Ty, Jazz and Flint) had a great time on the beaches and the lolvely walks in Bacton Woods, Felbrigg NT Estate. Loved Waxham beach and Burnham Overy Staithe but all the beaches great for the dogs here. We will have to come again as so many more places to explore and this is the perfect place to stay for us and the dogs, with newly fenced garden and everthing in Rooster Barn that we needed (loved the welcome pack!). Thanks Liz for making your new holiday home so perfect.
Jane and Stan with Ty, Jazz and Flint (3 Border Collies) - August 2013

Another fab, hot, sunny week at Rooster Barn. Went to some new places this year and loved Sheringham and Broads boat day. We have all enjoyed a nice relaxing and restful week. Hopefully we will be back next year.
Jacki, Marc, Jean-Luc, Harry and also Missy and Roxy, our Rottie dogs love this place, thank you - August 2013

As soon as we opened the door we were absolutely thrilled! Exceeded our expectations! What a lovely barn conversion - and so well equipped. Lily, the Bichon Frise, particularly appreciated the throws so she could cuddle up on the sofa at night - very canine friendly which made us, as a family of dog lovers, very happy. Such a peaceful location on such an idyllic street in this quiet village. Our top recommends locally include: the beach at Sea Palling, Sheringham was our favourite seaside town, but the front at Cromer takes some beating as it's full of fun! Thank you for a terrific stay! We now officially love Norfolk!
Best wishes from the Binns family - August 2013

What a beautiful barn in an idyllic location, we have enjoyed every minute of our stay. The barn is everything and more than we expected. This is my first visit to Norfolk and I have fallen in love. My husband enjoyed holidays here on the Broads, so we visited his old haunts! We have travelled all through Norfolk and have enjoyed lots of pub lunches and many walks. My only suggestion? Please can you build a stable so my horse Bruno can join us next time ..... he would love it here. Thank you.
Liz, Joanne, Dave, Lydia and Murray the Springer - August 2013

Another fabulous week at Rooster Barn. We now love this area so much we are considering buying a property here. Our expectations will be difficult to match given how comfortable Rooster is!! Once again great food and beaches and the weather was quite good to us this year too.
Scott, Nicki, Holly and Morgan with Dave and Summer - August 2013

Beautiful peaceful location, perfect accommodation combined with an amazing, sunny bank holiday weekend - couldn't ask for anything better! Will definately be returning soon. Thank you!
Paula and James - May 2013

This was our second visit to Rooster Barn and it was even better than the last! We had a great week - the weather was nice and we went to the beach most days. My favourite beaches were Happisburgh and Sea Palling (both dog friendly) and definately recommend visiting them both. We hope to return again in a few years!
Natasha and Tilly - April 2013

Many, many thanks for allowing us to stay at your wonderful Rooster Barn. A truly amazing conversion. Hopefully you will allow us to return (minus the teenage boys) during winter months some time soon. Enjoyed the beautiful hot weather and lovely places in Norfolk.
Jacki, Marc and Jean-Luc with Harry, Missy and Roxy - August 2012

We spent New Year's Eve in Rooster Barn, it was amazing, so comfortable and very well equipped for me and my family. We will definately be back. Thank you.
Teresa, David, Colin, Finlay and Alfie - Jan 2012

First visit to Norfolk and we don't want to go home. Rooster Barn is beautiful, lovely location and well equipped. Weather has been wonderful and not really needed to light the fire, however couldn't help ourselves on Wednesday night. The cottage is so cosy and comfortable, it's a pleasure at the end of a busy day to come home, even our spaniel excited as the car hit the drive after a long day out. Beautiful beaches and walks and we enjoyed Mundesley (Rocky included!), Holt Park and Holkham. The scenery at Holkham beach is breath-taking, miles of sandy beach! All in all a wonderful week, thank you! Would recommend Rooster Barn to our friends and family.
Paul, Tracey, Jasmine and Samuel with Rocky the Springer Spaniel - October 2011

A really relaxing week. Great walk from Wiveton Down - Cley - Blakeney, saw a hare and lapwing, avocets, oystercatchers on the marshes. Visited Felbrigg Hall, Sandringham, Blickling Hall, Holkham beach - super.
- May 2011

Amazing three nights in Rooster Barn. The perfect Valentine's break! The barn was more than we expected, the underfloor heating and log fire were ideal in the cold weather. The fish and chips at Frenches in Wells has to be the best we've ever had. Other places worth a look are Sheringham with it's collection of quaint shops (although Wells also has plenty of these), Norwich for it's superb shopping! Holt Country Park for a romantic walk through the woods. Mundesley beach was great but not much else there! Rooster Barn is the ideal place to come back to after a tiring day out in the lovely Norfolk countryside. Would come back tomorrow if we could.
Boyd and Maria - February 2009

My boyfriend chose this accommodation because I love chickens and in doing so found this magical place! The area is lovely but Rooster Barn has been the highlight of the trip. I couldn't believe my eyes walking through the door. Congratulations on creating a beautiful home and thank you for letting us share it. We will be back! Catherine.
Not much I can say, you kept my girlfriend happy, many thanks! Joe
- January 2009

Kevin, Jackie - woof, woof from Diarmid, Hector, Edmund and Walter - June 2016

I'm not into writing reviews, but what a beautiful barn. Very well equipped and very, very clean. Thank you very much, we have had a lovely lazy time. Just what you get when you book with East Ruston Cottages. Already looking forward to Christmas.

Jacqui, Allan, Freya, Davy, Harry and Beau - May 2016

Ange and Paul and Gill and Pat and...George, Denzil, Hettie, Rema, Max, Patchy, Pongo, Bailey, Lulu, Jacob, Dottie and Gino - March 2016

Our fourth stay at Rooster and just as perfect as before. Visited all our favourite places - Winterton, Cart Gap, Bacton Woods, Sheringham Park and Holkham Beach. We will be back soon. Thank you

Nicole, Ken, Toby and Candy - March 2016

Our first stay in Rooster Barn. Definitely the best cottage we have stayed in. Really well equipped - a home from home. Welcome pack lovely, thank you. Would highly recommend the Banningham Crown - fabulous food and service and very dog friendly. New Sage takeaway Mundesley - excellent food and of course, the Gunton Arms. Hope to return again soon.

Terry and Francesca, Charlie and Lula (French Bulldogs) - March 2016

Horsey beach - so close to the seals/fantastic beach. Gunton Arms - amazing rib of beef, Overstrand Crab Hut - fantastic flavour, Holkham - coast walk to Wells and crabbing, Bacton Wood - brill, Overstrand - Cromer beach walk, Happisburgh Hill House pub - quirky and good beer, Cromer - No 1 fish and chips, Cley - walk and smokehouse, Burnham Market - Haste Arms, Cromer - Poppyland Brewery, The Real Ale Shop - great beer selection, Truly Local shop - fab cheese, the boys (Schnauzers) loved everything - shattered and comfy.

Kerry, Chris, Margo, Buddy and Chester - February 2016

What a holiday! Perfect! Only 1 week wish it was more. Mundesley. Cromer beaches good but loved Sea Palling. Ferry Inn at Horning was amazing. Excellent food, location beautiful. Rooster Baarn really made our holiday perfect so much so, we will be re booking. Thank you for letting us stay in this wonderful place

Great walks, just love Sea Palling beach – beautiful place for the dogs to just run and run. Until the next time – Many thanks for sharing this beautiful home

Sarah, Phil – October 2015

OMG! What a wonderful place. This must be the perfect holiday barn. It was fantastically well equipped, very comfortable and an amazing welcome pack. I think the dogs would give Rooster Barn a 10/10 also. Not only was the barn perfect, but was ideally situated for walks, beaches pubs etc. We want to thank you for sharing your beautiful barn with us and cannot wait to return. Have booked for next year already – cant wait

Karen, Simon, Cushka and Freddie – Sepetmber 2015

Thoroughly enjoyable week. Welcome pack was wonderful! The cake lasted all week – great to enjoy with coffee and morning after our long walks with the dogs. Great fresh fish from Happisburgh! Gorgeous property, lots of outside space for the dogs and very peaceful. Recommend the 6 mile walk around the village, and usual fab fun at Mundesley and Cromer! Kids loved Davenports Magic Kingdom too. Best weather yet for this time of year – Cant wait till next year! Fab welcome pack, absolutely everything we could have needed was here, a real home from home but with a holiday feel. Thank you

Karen, Chris, Chloe, Eve, Oscar, Flynn, Denzil, Missy – September 2015

Oh what a lovely place. It's so nice and quiet. The welcome pack was such a shock! Its lovely and very kind of you. The doggies loved it and the walks, especially the garden. Betty Boo our St Bernard who is coming on 6 years old, was being like a spring chicken runing around.

Jessie, our Lapso x poodle loved it (she is 3 years old). And last of all Amber, who is 6 years old toy poodle x miniature poodle loved it. And they all said many thanks for their treats etc. Great plce very comfy beds too. See you again soon. Many thanks.

Marie and Paul – August 2015

What a beautiful place. And as for the welcome pack, that was lovely. Abby (lurcher) said a very big thank you for her goodies, she loved the fish treats – we had to go and buy her some to take home! We couldnt fault one thing, so have rebooked for next year. Most of the pubs were dog friendly and Abby has made loads of doggy friends along the lovely beaches. My parents came down for a couple of days and they said it it the BEST holiday barn they have stayed it – and they have stayed in loads and loads. Well done Rooster Barn team! See you next year

Karen, John and Abby – August 2015

Another wonderful stay here at Rooster Barn – completely relaxing! Hope to come back soon

Julia and Stephen Smart, Teddy, Daniel and Ruby the beagles – August 2015

We are so glad the dogs allowed us to accompany them on this weeks holiday. It has been truly wonderful. The accommodation is the best we have stayed in, everything has been catered for. The surrounding area is perfect, dog friendly country

What a wonderful week we've had here at Rooster Barn! I know its all been said, but it really is a truly dog friendly place to escape to!! Our first visit. Such a clean and comfy 'home from home' feel, with all you need and more! Thanks too for the tasty welcome goodies....the dogs loved the homemade dog biscuits aand we loved out munchies too!! Great to have such a secure garden and room for the dogs to run about and explore. Great Wood, Blickling, near Hevingham is our favourite woodland walk here. F ood and atmosphere good at the Vernon Arms, Southrepps (best to book). We were lucky with the weather too. Looking forward to returning next year, as the week has gone too quickly!!! With thanks to all

Claire and Terry and the very happy holidayed furry five!! - June 2015
