East Ruston Cottages

The Lodge, East Ruston

Sleeps 2

The Lodge is a detached, single storey conversion finished to a very high standard and sleeping up to 4.
In a very quiet part of East Ruston village, it’s well away from the lane but very close to great walks on the Weavers Way.
Lots of light and an enclosed garden with decking make it a great summer choice whilst modern
heating and insulation make it cosy in winter too. It is wheelchair friendly and has
a young and flourishing vineyard next door.

When you get here: The Lodge is down a private drive with easy parking just outside the front door. Access is up a ramp so easy for disabled or infirm guests. The door opens into…

Open plan kitchen/dining/living area: Very light and airy with French doors onto the decking. There is a leather chair and matching leather sofa which can also be a very comfortable sofa bed (see notes below if you would like to make use of this). The wall mounted flat screen tv has a DVD player and a selection of DVDs is provided.

A substantial folding table and very comfortable chairs are provided for meals and the kitchen area is stylish and beautifully designed to maximise the space. There is a ceramic hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge and everything you could need for a self catering holiday including a good selection of cooking utensils (and if there is anything else you need John and Jo, the owners, will be only too pleased to provide it if at all possible!) They have supplied plenty of crockery and cutlery (more than enough for four).

Just off this room is a cupboard containing the washing machine and a table top freezer (34 litres, approx half size of under counter freezer) plus iron and ironing board.

Beside this is the….

Shower Room: Fully tiled modern wet room with a state of the art remote controlled toilet (ideal for disabilities/infirm guests), sink and shower.

Double Bedroom: The bed is a superking zip and link so it can be good sized twin beds if you prefer. Plenty of room and storage space in the wardrobe including drawers. There are French doors in this room which also open out straight onto the decking.

Outside: Large enclosed area of decking and grass. Lights all around the decking edge and patio furniture for 4 plus barbecue and washing line.
The Lodge has open countryside on one side and the owners detached house and garden on the other. The fencing is mostly chestnut paling, approximately 4 ft. The bottom of the fencing has been blocked with chicken fencing and planted with a hedge to prevent small dogs escaping. The metal gate access is approx 3 ft high.

Heating: Modern, easily controlled and efficient central heating radiators heat The Lodge and with a good level of modern insulation it will never be cold.
If it does get a bit warm you can always open the remote controlled skylight!

We Provide:

  • Fresh towels, sheets and linen sufficient for the number of guests are provided each let.
  • A welcome pack including tea, coffee, sugar, locally sourced marmalade and jams from Ollands Farm Foods (a couple of miles away) and half a dozen local eggs.

“We have to say this is the best dog friendly holiday cottage that we have ever stayed in. It really is a home from home. We have had amazing weather for March, warm and sunny. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to come back again soon. We thank you for the welcome basket of goodies and the beautiful flowers.”.
Ruby and Sporran

“We arrived to a wonderful warm welcome. The Lodge is beautifully appointed and tastefully decorated, very warm and comfy. The dogs were in heaven, with lovely walks on various beaches, and their absolute favourite was Bacton Woods. We have all fallen in love with the area and have plans to return. Many thanks”.

How To Find Us:

How to find us: Chequers Street, East Ruston, NR12 9JT

Or – From the A149 which bypasses Stalham take the road signposted to Bacton/Happisburgh (Stepping Stone Lane).  At the T junction turn left onto the B1159 and take the first left, just after SAM business premises.  Stay on this small, tree lined road, bearing left over a small bridge into open farmland. Continue along this road as it passes Springfield Kennels and Broadland Eggs.  Just opposite Broadland Eggs there is a small access road that leads to The Lodge (black wood clad building) with the house beside it being called Poplar Farm House.

Our second time here. Just as comfy! Appreciated the wine and flowers very much thank you. Our dog very much made himself at home at home and again was very reluctant to let us leave! Favourite beach is the stretch from Waxham Barn down the seal colonies. Had an occasion to celebrate so treated ourselves to a meal at the Gunton Arms which was lovely! Will be back again next year!

Andrea and Phil - April 2017

Had a great time and stay at the lodge, such a lovely quiet, comfy and relaxing place to stay. We had a lovely walk from the lodge and been to several different beaches and also went to Great Yarmouth. Dogs have had a lovely time too, thoroughly enjoyed it and hope to come back in the future. Thank you John and Jo for letting us stay at the lovely Lodge

Our third visit to The Lodge and its as good as ever. Great touches with lots of lovely walks nearby. The Lodge has everything we need and is very comfortable. plus it is so peaceful and quiet - the dogs loved it.

October 2016

We came here last year for a week and enjoyed it so much we booked for 2 weeks for this year. My daughter and her new hubby joined for the first week as it was their honeymoon. Jo and John left a very nice touch (a wedding card with silver confetti). My grandson joined for the second week. He is 16 and he has autism and can be a bit picky but he thoroughly enjoyed himself and he didnt want to go home. This property is fab and you get peace and quiet in the countryside but not too far from dog friendly beaches. Fab property, fab location and fab owners. Already booked for 2 weeks in 2017.

Lesley and Andy - October 2016

Thank you Jo and John, we had a fantastic stay. We even had sunshine mixed with everything else the weather could think of. Brilliant place to stay with dogs, many thanks for allowing us to bring our five. Not many places do, especially in such a nice, clean and tidy lodge. the best we have stayed in. So many places to mention which were all lovely and so dog friendly. Would love to come back if you would have us.

Tye and Kerry with Bracken, Josie, Taggy, Connie and Alfie

One word - wonderful! We will be back asap

Vicky, Tony, Gracie, Maddie and Bod - who had a fantastic time on the beach - March 2016

What a wonderful break at The Lodge - a real home from home and the wonderful touches of biscuits for 3 cocker spaniels, welcome pack and flowers. Fantastic walk at Wels Next The Sea to Holkham - walk through the forest and then back along the beach and then a cup of tea and cake at the welcoming cafe. All very dog friendly. Wonderful meal at The Star Inn Lessingham but do book as it is very busy. Other places visited Cromer, Bacton Woods is worth a visit and a long walk with the dogs along the beach at Sea Palling. We have to come back as so much more to see. Sams Pets in North Walsham very helpful.

Kim, Richard, Bramble, Bracken and Huxley - March 2016

This is our third visit to The Lodge. Need I say more?? May the person reading this love it as much as we do. May you find all the home comforts, hidden treasures and friendly people we love so much that keeps us coming back time and time again. Enjoy!

Patrick, Sophie and Barney - March 2016

Loved staying at The Lodge - peaceful and relaxing. Needed the peace and quiet away from the city of London. Dogs loved the local beaches, especially Winterton-on-Sea. Wow place, pity the cafe only opens at the weekend in the winter. Sea Palling fab place too, also Wells-Next-The-Sea woodlands near the beach. Plenty cafes around beach places. Weather has been fab apart from raining Thursday all day, which gave us, and the dogs, a good rest all day. Will recommend The Lodge as a perfect quiet little getaway

Jo, Mary, Buddha, Bubbles, Whisky and Bailey - January 2016

Lovely stay at The Lodge, dogs were very relaxed from the start. Would definitely recommend Happisburgh beach. Would definitely come back to the Lodge again. Thank you

This holiday is just what we needed. Fabulous accommodation – everything you need and pots of luxury. You couldnt wish for more when you stay here. Pefect location, nice and quiet in the countryside and not far from beaches. We were over the moon with the 'Welcome Pack' as were the dogs. I would definitely recommend The Lodge and have booked for two weeks next year. Jo and John, thank you for making us feel so welcome and you're doing a brilliant job. See you Sept 2016

Lesley, Andy, Blossom and Molly Moo Moo – September 2015

Wonderful holiday with a fabulous base. The Lodge is the best accomodation (dog friendly) that we have stayed in. Nell, Button, Lenny and Poppy loved it and it was so nice to have a secure garden for them. Fabulous walks at Blakeney Quay, Cley, Morston and best of all at Horsey Gap where there are endless sandy beaches and beautiful seals, we felt very privileged. Would love to come back in 2017. The welcome pack was great and the dogs loved their biscuits too! Thank you

Dear John and Jo, We have had another lovely week at the Lodge. It is so relaxing here, one doesnt want to return home. Thank you for the delicious goodies- the bag was very useful for doggie 'stuff' especially hiding tennis balls from spaniels with OCD on the beach! We thoroughly enjoyed our boat trip on Ross' boat on Horsey and Falcon at the Broads Museum. Delicious meal at the Star and hopefully The White Horse at Neatished tonight. Do hope to see you agin soon.

PS Thank you for the lovely colourful flowers.

We came here to celebrate our 25th Wedding anniversary. On our arrival, along with the welcome pack, Jo and John had given us a lovely bunch of flowers, anniversary card and chocolate cake for which we were extremely thankful. The Lodge is a fantastic place to stay in, everything you need and to a high standard as well. We felt at home from the first minute we arrived. We saw several nature occurences. Which we might not see again – the Barn Owl hunting on Monday night, which we observed from the decking, being our favourite. Our dog, Dylan (Welsh Springer) loved the doggy treats and we are sure he felt like it was a home from home. Sincerely hope we can return soon. Thank you Jo and John for a great stay.

Not long till the summer and we will be back for 2 weeks! Thank you.
Vicky and Tony - April 2015

A fabulous week at The Lodge – so peaceful. Love all the wildlife in the fields. Husband has fallen in love with the area, it reminds him of home (Netherlands). Dogs absolutely tired out with all the adventures on the Weavers Way, beaches and woods. Stalham is such a friendly town too. The eggs were delicious and so were the jams and marmalade. Definitely want to return. Thank you.

Thanks.

We have had a fabulous few days with our two dogs. The Lodge is a home from home and so refreshing not to have endless rules and regulations re: the dogs. There are so many places to walk that we ran out of time, so we'll just have to come back! Thanks for everything John and Jo.
Beccy and Paul with Tilly and Cassie - November 2014

A lovely weekend relaxing and visiting the beach. Even the normally stressy terrier managed to chill out. It was lovely that the dogs could feel as at home as we did. We will be recommending The Lodge to all our doggy friends!

Thank you! We had a glorious week and Toby (spaniel) enjoyed himself and felt very relaxed and "at home". The Lodge is beautifully fitted out and a perfect place to relax. We enjoyed exploring Bacton Woods and had lovely walks on the beach at Cart Gap, followed by lunch at Smallsticks (very good cafe). A trip on Falcon (steam launch) at the Broads Museum is s "must" - great fun and the museum is very interesting! We dined at the Swan at Ingham and had a delicious meal. Well where do we start. 1st thank you for letting us stay at this lovely llittle lodge. As has been said before, you have thought of everything, the welcome pack, the flowers, Boris loved his biscuits. We could have asked for no more. 2nd, loved our chats with your Mum, a lovely lady, and last but not least with your permission, we will be back, best holiday for us this year. So a big thanks to John and Jo.
Lesley and Andrew with Boris - July 2014

What a lovely and peaceful holiday for us all. And what a superb place the Lodge is. We were very impressed from the moment we came in the front door for the first time and this feeling did not diminish the whole time we were here. The thought and touches that John and Jo had put into the design is second to none. The welcome pack was a lovely touch. Everything was so perfect for us. Thank you John and Jo. There are lovely walks around the countryside near the Lodge. Other areas we liked were Bacton Woods and the walks along the Weavers Way. We also liked the beach at Happisburgh which is very dog friendly and, at low tide, there is a big expanse of sand for your dog to run around. Can I suggest, though, that you check out the high tides before you go as the sea does come in a long way! Also worth a mention is the Star at Lessingham for a fantastic Sunday roast. Great food and you can take your dog too!
Geoff, Ginny, Hettie and Blue - June 2014

We have had a fabulous week here at 'The Lodge'. The welcome basket was appreciated, also the flowers were a lovely homely touch. The weather has been amazing so no long walks were done. Been to Happisburgh, Walcott and Sea Palling beaches (dog friendly). Looking forward to visiting you all again next year.
Belinda, Mick and Toffee - May 2014

Had a lovely week here. The Lodge is really nice and the area great for a holiday. As it was very sunny we didn't do any long walks but the walk into Stalham on the Weavers Way was handy (Doug loved the rabbits). He was also welcomed on the steam railway from Sheringham to Holt (and the main railway from North Walsham) and on the Broads Tours boat from Wroxham Bridge. We liked Sea Palling beach (half dog friendly) and the Star at Lessingham for a convivial atmosphere.
Anne, Chris and Douglas the Westie - May 2014

Thank you so much Jo and John, we've had a wonderful short break in the perfect Lodge. Next time we'll bring Jack the greyhound - he'll love it too!

Vicki and Jack - February 2014

What a wonderfully appointed holiday cabin. 'The Lodge' is very special - what a great bedroom, kitchen (great cooker) and wetroom with 'Superloo'! Despite the gales/rain etc. we enjoyed a snugged-in week (with sunny breaks) - which allowed us to take our 2 Jack Russell pups for muddy walks! Can't wait to come again. Many thanks to Jo and John. P.S. the 'Greeting Basket' was also a lovely touch to begin our week.
Kate and Richard with Joe and Dotty - February 2014
