Welcome to The Old Piggery
FEATURED AS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IN THE 'YOUR DOG' "Your Dog magazine got it right, it is superb for dogs" The Old Piggery is a single storey conversion from an old farm building and is attached to an old Norfolk threshing barn. It is finished to a high standard, using many reclaimed materials and is furnished and decorated in a simple, fresh rural style.
Pamment flooring with washable rugs and no stairs make it very suitable for children, dogs and those with limited mobility. The ground source heat pump for underfloor heating and rainwater collection system may be of interest to those wishing for a more environmentally sensitive holiday. See our Green page for more information. Sitting/dining/kitchen: Open plan area with high beamed ceiling. Fully fitted, well equipped kitchen with breakfast bar. Fitted fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave/combination oven. Comfy seating with large flat screen TV/DVD (Freeview) and home theatre including iPod docking and surround sound. Pine dining table and chairs. Breakfast bar stools. Dressing up basket (intended for children mostly!) Wood burning stove in feature reclaimed brick fireplace. Double bedroom: Victorian brass/iron double bed. En-suite bedroom: King-size bed which can also be two singles, modern en-suite shower room with large walk in shower. Small bedroom: Trundle bed which can be a single, twin or king-size double. Bathroom: Bath and shower (over bath). Plenty of storage. Heating: Underfloor from ground source heat pump system complemented by wood burning stove. The underfloor heating is sufficient warmth for all but the very coldest weather. The wood burning stove is secondary. The first load of seasoned logs is provided – any others can be bought from the owners at £1/basket (money donated to Village Hall fund) Outside: Enclosed barn yard with substantial outdoor furniture and barbecue and parasol. A lovely place to spend an evening over dinner or a barbecue and watch the sun go down and the aerial shows by the swallows, bats and barn owl. Also a very safe space for dogs. Large covered porch area. Cupboard for wood/barbecue and second fridge. Small grass area (not enclosed) at the rear, parking for 4 cars. What we provide: Please note - there is no land line telephone for the Piggery. The most reliable network for the area is Vodafone. Guests are requested not to smoke in the cottage please. Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda and Waitrose all deliver to The Old Piggery, so if you want to arrange for a delivery on the day of your arrival, just let us know and we will put it all away for you. If you would rather have local food, there is a wonderful local food shop in Stalham - Truly Local - run as a not for profit shop selling items from within a 35 mile radius. They would be pleased to put together a starter box of groceries for your arrival. Let us know if this is something you want to do. How to find us: Post code: NR12 9HS Or - from the A149 at Stalham, take the turning signposted to Happisburgh, Bacton and Walcott (Stepping Stone Lane). Turn left at the T junction. Continue up this road for approximately 3 miles until you come to a left turn signposted Byway to Fox Hill. Take this and continue down this lane until you reach a sharp bend to the right with a large barn on the right. The Piggery is in the yard of this barn. Parking on the concrete pad behind. If we cannot offer you the property you want on the date you want why not try looking for other dog friendly properties at Pet Friendly Rentals.

"Quite simply the most dog friendly holiday cottage we've ever stayed in. We've been to The Old Piggery three times now and will continue to visit regularly - why go anywhere else when Sue and Dermot have provided everything we could possibly need - and welcome us with our 6 dogs. The feel of the cottage is perfect, very dog friendly but also contemporary and chic. Dog friendly beaches nearby and walks from the cottage - what more could you ask for?"
Regular guests from Surrey
And they're not the only ones who have enjoyed the Piggery. See what other lovely things our guests have said about The Old Piggery by looking in our Guestbook.
In one of the photos of the living area above, Lola is kindly modelling the dog friendly attributes of the Piggery and you might just be able to make out Morris peeping over the sofa arm. Both Lola and Morris come on holiday here regularly with their 4 other dog friends and with Penel Malby who very kindly took the photo for the website. She is a professional photographer specialising in animals, children and weddings. See her beautiful images here.
Something else dog people might be interested in is her dog socialisation/ communication groups - highly recommended by us and many others. Much more information on her website here.
Dog biscuits for the Forge are made by Jan at Neros Kitchen, raising money for Halkida Dog Shelter in Greece. Jan came with her 3 rescue dogs - Nero, Alice and Xena one week in November to get away from the fireworks and now lives here! Quite a few other people have either done that or are planning on it. That's the effect Norfolk's big skies, friendly villages and empty beaches have. We may lose them as customers but we gain them as friends - can't be bad!
