Local Walks

This page is to provide links to comprehensive guides to local walks and some good ones a bit further afield.

If you are staying at any of the cottages then they can be printed off before your holiday.  All of the cottages have some walk leaflets and books as well as the necessary maps but this is a starting selection.

(You will need Adobe reader installed to view some of these)

East Ruston - Weavers Way - Stalham - East Ruston
6 miles.  The starting point is easily accessible on foot from Holmes House, The Lodge, Wind In The Willows and The Tender.
This takes you into the town of Stalham as well as walking along the Weavers Way.

East Ruston - Dilham
5.5 miles along the River Ant and Dilham Canal.  Some quiet lanes.  The starting point is the same as the walk above.

East Ruston
5 mile walk around the village. The starting point is easily accessible on foot from Holmes House and The Tender as well as Wind In The Willows and The Lodge but the walk can be started easily at Point 7 from The Old Piggery.

Happisburgh Common
4.6 miles.  The walk at point 8 - 9 can be easily accessed on foot from The Old Piggery.

Happisburgh - Walcott - Happisburgh
5.8 miles.  Takes round the village of Happisburgh and along the coast to Walcott and back.

Briggate
5.3 miles of delightful walking round the village of Briggate and the old wool village of Worstead. Lots of it along the Weavers Way
(so if you are energetic you could start it from Holmes House or the Tender!) and the Dilham Canal.

Hickling - Weavers Way - Hickling Heath - Hickling
3.7 mile walk that passes the door of Red Roofs.

Town Street - Weavers Way - Hickling - Town Street
3.4 mile walk that is very easily accessible on foot from Red Roofs.

Southrepps
A lovely walk of 5 miles round some very nice villages and countryside.  This walk has the advantage of finishing just down the road from the Suffield Arms!  Milestone Barn is the nearest of the cottages to this walk and Rooster Barn is close by too.

Trunch
A lovely 6.2 miler round the village of Trunch in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  The Crown at Trunch would be a good place for a post walk pint!
The closest of the properties are Rooster Barn and Milestone Barn.

Knapton - Pigneys Wood - Canal and Paston Way
A very rural walk of 5 miles including the Woodland Trust's Pigneys Wood and the North Walsham and Dilham Canal.

 Bacton Woods
Just 3.7 miles around these easy to walk in woods, ideal for a wet or windy day.

How Hill
A 5 mile walk in a lovely area, along the waterside and including the How Hill reserve.  Very typical of the Broads area.

Horsey
A lovely 5 miler including an easy path along the coast where the walk can be expanded onto the dunes and beaches.
A good place to see seals breeding in the winter.

Coltishall - Little Hautbois - Great Hautbois - Coltishall
5.6 miles of fabulous easy and interesting walking.  Coltishall has 4 pubs to choose from for a post walk treat!

Winterton
Just under 5 miles along the back of the dunes and inland.
