Greenwood Barn, Ridlington

Sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms

Stunning rustic 3 bedroom dog-friendly barn.

“Absolutely wonderful place, we really don’t want to leave. This is our first holiday to Norfolk and we already can’t wait to return. Barn is stunning – 5*!”

The best of both worlds here at dog-friendly Greenwood Barn. Countryside walks in one direction; the beach in the other.  From the barn, you can easily head up and down the coast to the rest of the wonderful selection of dog-friendly sandy beaches here in Norfolk.  Simply stunning self-catering accommodation in a single storey converted barn.

  • 15 minutes walk to the big sandy, dog friendly beach at Bacton.
  • The local pub is very dog-friendly – the Poacher’s Pocket
  • Nearby cafes Kingfisher Cafe and the fabulous ‘Sugar and Spice’ are dog welcoming.
  • Two well stocked village shops, fish and chips, Chinese takeaway all a short walk away, even a dog groomers!

When you arrive:  Go through the 5 bar gate and park yourselves up on the gravel area – enough parking for 2-3 cars.  Then you can shut the gate and let the dogs out safely.

Entrance hall: Enter this wow-factor barn to the front, into a large hallway with double glazed windows all the way along.  Warm and light throughout! The reclaimed French tiled flooring was purchased from a French Brocante in the Pays de la Loire region, and originates from an old French farmhouse. More character from the exposed beams and the underfloor heating.

Lounge: Enjoy the space in this bright room with wood flooring throughout.  The feature wood burner has an exposed chimney, so you can cuddle up on the comfy sofas to watch tv. The almost fully glazed wall encasing the French doors opens up into the large South facing garden.

Dining area: The dining table seats 6 and is solid wood and the double glazed window to the side lets in plenty of light.  The main beams in the living area are reclaimed and originated from an old railway signal box, while the fluted upright beam in the living area was reclaimed from a Norfolk farmhouse, which was originally reclaimed from a medieval building!

Kitchen:  The shaker style range of wall and base units give this a lovely feel and style. Plenty of work surfaces too.  Cook your meals on the built-in Bosch double oven using a great range of cooking utensils.  You’ve also got a built-in dishwasher, washing machine, sink, and drainer. Useful spotlighting and underfoot heated tiled flooring.  There are a single under counter fridge and a freezer too (100 litres).

Bedroom 1:  This is a very nice sized double room, again with wood flooring and a double glazed window to the rear letting in the light.

Bathroom: This is a Jack and Jill bathroom with two doors in and out. In here you can enjoy the bath with shower over and of course there is a hand wash basin and low-level WC.  More tiled flooring with underfloor heating and light coming in from the double glazed window to the front.

Bedroom 2:  This room has twin beds, another double glazed window to the side, and a door to the wet room

En-suite wet room: A larger than usual shower room with great disabled access, two wall mounted shower heads, a low-level WC and hand wash basin, shaver point, and wet room flooring.

Bedroom 3: Another lovely big twin room with wood flooring, and a double glazed window to the front.

En-suite shower room:  The shower cubicle is a walk-in one, there’s a low-level WC, hand wash basin too.  The tiled floor has underfloor heating keeping the chill off in any weather.

Outside:   When you open up the doors from the hallway or lounge, you are straight into the large grassed garden. There is a patio area with large picnic table and bench seating and bbq, so in summer you can have all the doors open and enjoy the outside space fully. Wash off sandy or muddy paws with the outdoor doggy shower!

Will it suit your dogs?

The grassed area is a fully enclosed garden. The fencing on the two sides is solid. On the roadside, there is a hedge and mesh fence, to stop the little ones from escaping the lovely enclosed garden. The 5 bar gate to the property is just under 4′ high and fully covered by chicken wire mesh. There are an array of farmyard animals living next door, including pigs, cockerels, and donkeys!  You can’t see them from the garden but you may be able to hear them from time to time.

  • The property is no smoking.

Testimonials:

“Thank you for a lovely stay. Perfect quiet location away from it all. With 5 adults and 5 dogs, there has been plenty of space. We’ve enjoyed  beach walks at Walcott, Sea Palling, Cart Gap and Happisburgh.” – Jen, Dave, Heidi, Paul, Bec and Dogs! (June 2021)
“We came for my husband’s 60th birthday. We were meant to go to a larger property in April but that was cancelled due to Covid so we came a month later with fewer people but managed to bring all four dogs. The barn was wonderfully comfortable and we very much enjoyed our stay. The beach really is a 15 minute walk away and beautifully sandy. The fish and chips at The Kingfisher are fabulous. We went to the Gunton Arms for a birthday lunch which we highly recommend and was made possible with Sue dog sitting for us! Wonderful company, beautiful area – we will be back!” – The Hogans and Snowballs and 4 dogs!
“Had a lovely relaxing break in Norfolk at Greenwood Barn. In the countryside but close to the sea which was a 5 min drive away with cafes and pubs all nearby too and plenty of private parking space at the barn”. – Louise

“Thank you for a fantastic and relaxing time in beautiful surroundings. Your barn is amazing with everything one would need for a week away. Our dog best has been in her element. This is her first holiday away as our adopted furry friend – she even got on with the pigs! We can’t wait to come back to this wonderful place” – The Reynolds, Bishop Stortford

Heading South on the A149 towards Vicarage Road, take Meeting Hill to Happisburgh Road in North Walsham, take the North Walsham road to Bachelor’s Lane, turn left on to Bachelors Lane, turn right in to Mill Common Road. Pass the turning for Rookery Farm Road on your right, you will find Greenwood Barn on your left (opposite and immediately after the next turning on the right-unnamed road). The gate is behind the holly bush and the drive points in the opposite direction, so you will need to almost turn back on yourself to pull up in front of the gate.

Heading North on the A149: Just after Stalham (on your right) turn right onto the B1159 Stepping Stone Lane. At the T-junction, turn left onto Brumstead Road (still the B1159). On the approach to Walcott turn left opposite The Lighthouse Inn (dog friendly) into Rookery Farm Road. Take the first turning on your right (unnamed road).  You will come to the junction with Mill Common Road and Greenwood Barn is opposite, behind the hedge. Turn right and the drive is immediately on your left, behind the holly bush. The drive faces in the opposite direction, so you will need to almost turn back on yourself to pull up in front of the gate.

From Walcott seafront: Head towards Bacton (with the sea on your right). Turn left onto Mill Common Road. Greenwood Barn is 0.6m on your right, just prior to the first turning on your left, and is next door to Mill Farm.

Guestbook

"Our long planned holiday to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary had to be postponed until 2022 because of Covid, so instead a staycation in our adopted County. The welcome hamper was a really nice touch and very thoughtful. The barn has everything we needed for a week away to get some needed R&R. Loved the mix of reclaimed doors, tiles, beams etc in a modern well laid out pad. We re-visted all of our favourite places that we had holidayed in before we moved to Norfolk - timeless beauty and pace of the Norfolk Coast is exceptional." - Steve and Denise

“Our first time at Hidden Gem but not East Ruston Cottages.   The cottage is absolutely wonderful and has a very homely feel.  We have had a really relaxing holiday in a stunning location and Hidden Gem is like a home from home.  The beach and dunes are beautiful and the garden has been perfect for our two hounds!  A very dog friendly holiday cottage. All the extra little touches and the welcome gifts have been much appreciated!  We will definitely be back!! "
