Single storey, detached, modern and well equipped Lodge.
“Thank you for a lovely stay at the Lodge. Very comfortable and homely. Great dog friendly and garden and probably the most comfortable bed we have had in a holiday let. We’ll be back!”
Small but perfectly formed! Very well fitted out inside and the super comfy, superking bed gets a lot of mentions in the comments book. In a very quiet part of East Ruston village, The Lodge is a short walk from some great walks on the Weavers Way and the local footpaths through the fields. Nearby Stalham town has all you need for supplies and the great selection of Norfolk sandy, dog friendly beaches are a short drive away.
Lots of light and an enclosed garden with decking make it a great summer choice whilst modern heating and insulation make it cosy in winter too. It is wheelchair accessible too.
** Dogs love the walks straight from the door, the warm outside shower
and the fully enclosed garden! **
When you get here: The Lodge is down a private drive with easy parking just outside the front door. Access is up a ramp so easy for disabled or infirm guests. The door opens into…
Open plan kitchen/dining/living area: Very light and airy with French doors onto the decking. There is a leather chair and matching leather sofa which can also be a very comfortable sofa bed (see notes below if you would like to make use of this). The wall mounted flat screen tv has a DVD player and a selection of DVDs is provided.
A substantial folding table and very comfortable chairs are provided in the kitchen area which is cleverly and beautifully designed to maximise the space. There is a ceramic hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge and everything you could need for a self catering holiday including a good selection of cooking utensils (and if there is anything else you need John and Jo, the owners, will be only too pleased to provide it if at all possible!) They have supplied plenty of crockery and cutlery (more than enough for four).
Just off this room is a cupboard containing the washing machine and a table top freezer (34 litres, approx half size of under counter freezer) plus iron and ironing board, all neatly tucked away.
Beside this is the….
Shower Room: Fully tiled modern wet room with a state of the art remote controlled toilet (ideal for disabilities/infirm guests), sink and shower.
Double Bedroom: The bed is a superking zip and link so it can be good sized twin beds if you prefer. Plenty of room and storage space in the wardrobe including drawers. There are French doors in this room which also open out straight onto the decking.
Outside: Good size enclosed area of decking and grass. Lights all around the decking edge and patio furniture for 4 plus barbecue and washing line.
The Lodge has open countryside on one side and the owners detached house and garden on the other. The fencing is mostly chestnut paling, approximately 4 ft. The bottom of the fencing is filled with with chicken fencing to stop little dogs getting through and the evergreen laurel hedge now has grown to a height of over 5ft providing a visual as well as physical barrier. The metal gate access is approx 3.5 ft high.
Heating: Modern, easily controlled and efficient central heating radiators heat The Lodge and with a good level of modern insulation it will never be cold. If it does get a bit warm you can always open the remote controlled skylight!
The Lodge is a non smoking property.
Arrival is 4pm and departure 10am (but can be different if there are no adjacent bookings).
Week long bookings are Friday to Friday and short breaks are available in the quieter months.

“We have loved staying in The Lodge! It’s our first time at the Lodge and in Norfolk and it is just breath taking! Thoroughly enjoyed the beaches, the crafty/arty shops and places to eat/drink, so dog friendly! I can’t believe it! Lady (black lab) has been welcomed everywhere. Will definitely stay again, we love it here!! Many thanks.”

Thank you so much for our welcome pack – wine was lush. We have had the best week’s holiday ever. The Lodge was like home from home, the bed was so comfy. We have been all over the place and still didn’t see everything. There is so much to see, so we shall be back. Our poor dog needs to go home to recover but she loved all the walks.
Many, many thanks from Bob, Elaine and Lulu (rating the Lodge 5*, 5*, 5*!)
Had a wonderful relaxing week. Visited the seals at Horsey and had lovely walks on the beaches at Winterton and Happisburgh (via Cart Gap). Weather to begin with was lovely and warm. The rear garden is a wonderful sun trap. Have seen a variety of wildlife including owls, bats etc. The Lodge is very comfortable and very well appointed. And that bed!!!! (need I say more!?) The dogs were really happy here. Thank you so much for the welcome pack, the wine went down perfectly.

First time we have been away for Christmas and we couldn’t have picked a better place. Spent most of the time just relaxing and going on lovely walks – our little dog just loves the Weavers Way and all its smells. The only disappointment was that she didn’t see any squirrels or rabbits so had to make do with chasing the blackbirds into the undergrowth! The welcome to The Lodge was lovely with sparkling lights and a lovely welcome pack. A very comfy, cosy place – we couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you John and Jo.

We have had the most wonderful holiday in “The Lodge”. It has gone far too quickly, although we have enjoyed so many outings i.e. Hillside Sanctuary, Horsey Windpump, the absolutely gorgeous beaches and lovely market towns. I think we have nearly walked our dogs’ legs off! Three very tired pups going to Wales this morning! We have all loved our first stay in Norfolk and will definitely be back to do all the things we couldn’t fit into our week.

Our second time here. Just as comfy! Appreciated the wine and flowers very much thank you. Our dog very much made himself at home at home and again was very reluctant to let us leave! Favourite beach is the stretch from Waxham Barn down the seal colonies. Had an occasion to celebrate so treated ourselves to a meal at the Gunton Arms which was lovely! Will be back again next year!
Andrea and Phil and Al
Had a great time and stay at the lodge, such a lovely quiet, comfy and relaxing place to stay. We had a lovely walk from the lodge and been to several different beaches and also went to Great Yarmouth. Dogs have had a lovely time too, thoroughly enjoyed it and hope to come back in the future. Thank you John and Jo for letting us stay at the lovely Lodge.

Thanks for a lovely few days in The Lodge. Feels really at home. Simba and Mia settled here too. Very comfortable dog-friendly and welcoming. Will be back for longer next time.

Our third visit to The Lodge and it’s as good as ever. Great touches with lots of lovely walks nearby. The Lodge has everything we need and is very comfortable. plus it is so peaceful and quiet - the dogs loved it.
Ann, Helen and Sprocket
We came here last year for a week and enjoyed it so much we booked for 2 weeks for this year. My daughter and her new hubby joined for the first week as it was their honeymoon. Jo and John left a very nice touch (a wedding card with silver confetti). My grandson joined for the second week. He is 16 and he has autism and can be a bit picky but he thoroughly enjoyed himself and he didn’t want to go home. This property is fab and you get peace and quiet in the countryside but not too far from dog friendly beaches. Fab property, fab location and fab owners. Already booked for 2 weeks in 2017.

Thank you Jo and John, we had a fantastic stay. We even had sunshine mixed with everything else the weather could think of. Brilliant place to stay with dogs, many thanks for allowing us to bring our five. Not many places do, especially in such a nice, clean and tidy lodge. The best we have stayed in. So many places to mention which were all lovely and so dog friendly. Would love to come back if you would have us.

One word - wonderful! We will be back asap!

Our second relaxing visit to The Lodge. Great weather for walking the dogs. morning bike rides and 'talking turkeys'. The Lodge = home from home, walk through the door and the kettle on. Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

What a wonderful break at The Lodge - a real home from home and the wonderful touches of biscuits for 3 cocker spaniels, welcome pack and flowers. Fantastic walk at Wels Next The Sea to Holkham - walk through the forest and then back along the beach and then a cup of tea and cake at the welcoming cafe. All very dog friendly. Wonderful meal at The Star Inn Lessingham but do book as it is very busy. Other places visited Cromer, Bacton Woods is worth a visit and a long walk with the dogs along the beach at Sea Palling. We have to come back as so much more to see. Sams Pets in North Walsham very helpful.
Kim, Richard, Bramble, Bracken and Huxley
This is our third visit to The Lodge. Need I say more?? May the person reading this love it as much as we do. May you find all the home comforts, hidden treasures and friendly people we love so much that keeps us coming back time and time again. Enjoy!
Patrick, Sophie and Barney
Loved staying at The Lodge - peaceful and relaxing. Needed the peace and quiet away from the city of London. Dogs loved the local beaches, especially Winterton-on-Sea. Wow place, pity the cafe only opens at the weekend in the winter. Sea Palling fab place too, also Wells-Next-The-Sea woodlands near the beach. Plenty cafes around beach places. Weather has been fab apart from raining Thursday all day, which gave us, and the dogs, a good rest all day. Will recommend The Lodge as a perfect quiet little getaway.
Jo, Mary, Buddha, Bubbles, Whisky and Bailey
Lovely stay at The Lodge, dogs were very relaxed from the start. Would definitely recommend Happisburgh beach. Would definitely come back to the Lodge again. Thank you
Nicky and Megan (the humans) and King, Keeta (the German Shepherds) and Chewy and Poppy (the Springer Spaniels)
Another fabulous relaxing stay at The Lodge. Thanks Jo and John who have made this break perfect by thinking of every conceivable comfort. Wonderful place, lovely people - will recommend to all my friends.

A little oasis of peace and loveliness. Thank you John and Jo for another wonderful holiday. See you next year.
Gillian, Geoff, Lottie and Blue
This holiday is just what we needed. Fabulous accommodation – everything you need and pots of luxury. You couldn’t wish for more when you stay here. Perfect location, nice and quiet in the countryside and not far from beaches. We were over the moon with the 'Welcome Pack' as were the dogs. I would definitely recommend The Lodge and have booked for two weeks next year. Jo and John, thank you for making us feel so welcome and you're doing a brilliant job. See you Sept 2016.
Lesley, Andy, Blossom and Molly Moo Moo
Wonderful holiday with a fabulous base. The Lodge is the best accommodation (dog friendly) that we have stayed in. Nell, Button, Lenny and Poppy loved it and it was so nice to have a secure garden for them. Fabulous walks at Blakeney Quay, Cley, Morston and best of all at Horsey Gap where there are endless sandy beaches and beautiful seals, we felt very privileged. Would love to come back in 2017. The welcome pack was great and the dogs loved their biscuits too! Thank you.
Vicky, Russ and the four legged kids
Dear John and Jo, We have had another lovely week at the Lodge. It is so relaxing here, one doesn’t want to return home. Thank you for the delicious goodies- the bag was very useful for doggie 'stuff' especially hiding tennis balls from spaniels with OCD on the beach! We thoroughly enjoyed our boat trip on Ross' boat on Horsey and Falcon at the Broads Museum. Delicious meal at the Star and hopefully The White Horse at Neatished tonight. Do hope to see you again soon. PS Thank you for the lovely colourful flowers.
Katherine, Jonathan and Toby
We have had a fantastic week at the Lodge. It is great to have so many walks nearby. We have explored Weavers Way, the beaches and various National Trust parks. Bailey is absolutely worn out! We were able to see some of the meteor shower whilst sitting out on the deck which Ethan thought was amazing! A huge thank you to John and Jo, the Lodge is perfect! We hope to return.
Stuart, Abbie, Ethan and Bailey
Had great week fantastic accommodation, lots of long walks on the beaches and Weavers Way. Now off to Smallsticks for a run on the beach followed by a full English and then home. Hope to be back very soon.
Clive, Stella and the doggies Charlie and Pippa
What an idyllic little home from home. Everything is just lovely and we've had a blissful holiday. Recommend the White Horse at Neatishead for a great meal and Ross's Wildlife Tours at Horsey for a trip on the broads. Hope to be back.
Keith and Jane, Toby and Kipper
Thank you for the goodies and flowers, a very homely touch. We have had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay in a lovely Lodge. With everything you need. Weather just perfect, hottest week of the year. Visited The Old Vicarage Gardens, absolutely wonderful. Hope to return in the future.
Nancy and Bob
Once again, we have had a great week staying at The Lodge. Thank you John and Jo, for the thoughtful welcome basket, flowers and milk, eggs etc. Geoff, myself and the dogs feel so at home, it’s truly lovely! Once again, visits to 'The Star' at Lessingham for great food served with a smile. More walks along Weavers Way, and Bacton Woods, plus a visit to Winterton-On-Sea for 'zoomies' on the sand dunes after a Sunday visit to the Great British Greyhound Walk at Lowestoft. Thank you also for the strawberries, much appreciated.
Ginny, Geoff, Lottie and Blue
We came here to celebrate our 25th Wedding anniversary. On our arrival, along with the welcome pack, Jo and John had given us a lovely bunch of flowers, anniversary card and chocolate cake for which we were extremely thankful. The Lodge is a fantastic place to stay in, everything you need and to a high standard as well. We felt at home from the first minute we arrived. We saw several nature occurrences. Which we might not see again – the Barn Owl hunting on Monday night, which we observed from the decking, being our favourite. Our dog, Dylan (Welsh Springer) loved the doggy treats and we are sure he felt like it was a home from home. Sincerely hope we can return soon. Thank you Jo and John for a great stay.
Bill, Linda and Dylan
We had a fantastic 4 nights at The Lodge and we absolutely love it! Thank you so much for the welcome pack. The dogs and us have had fab walks. We will definitely be back next year, The Lodge is just perfect!

Another wonderful week at The Lodge! From the second we walked in we felt so relaxed and at home. The welcome pack and flowers are much appreciated as is the outstanding cleanliness and attention to detail. The dogs are now depressed as they know we’re packing up! Not long till the summer and we will be back for 2 weeks! Thank you.
Vicky and Tony and hounds
A fabulous week at The Lodge – so peaceful. Love all the wildlife in the fields. Husband has fallen in love with the area, it reminds him of home (Netherlands). Dogs absolutely tired out with all the adventures on the Weavers Way, beaches and woods. Stalham is such a friendly town too. The eggs were delicious and so were the jams and marmalade. Definitely want to return. Thank you.
Fritz and Janet
We have to say this is the best dog friendly holiday cottage that we have ever stayed in. It really is a home from home. We have had amazing weather for March, warm and sunny. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to come back again soon. We thank you for the welcome basket of goodies and the beautiful flowers . Also it was lovely to meet John and Jo and not forgetting Ann whose company we enjoyed over the fence. Many thanks.
Ruby and Sporran
Our second visit and again we were not disappointed. Such a lovely place and such great hospitality from John and Jo. Flowers and dog biscuits much appreciated. Even though the weather wasn’t brilliant we still managed to get out and about and even managed to see the eclipse. Thank you so much.
Roy and Steph
Absolutely amazing time had by all including the 2 dogs! All things covered in the Lodge for human and animals alike. Beautiful place, lovely hosts, can't wait for our next visit!
Clare, Sharon and Lisa with Buster and Alma
Enjoyed our week here, very safe and snug from the rain at the start of the week. Our first stay here, having been to the Old Piggery a number of times. Won't be our last stay, we've been very comfortable. Dogs have enjoyed themselves as usual, Cart Gap, Happisburgh beach, Bacton Woods. Nice meal at the Star and breakfast at the Smallsticks Cafe. Thanks.
Julie and Hugh with Finn and Stanley
We have had a fabulous few days with our two dogs. The Lodge is a home from home and so refreshing not to have endless rules and regulations re: the dogs. There are so many places to walk that we ran out of time, so we'll just have to come back! Thanks for everything John and Jo.
Beccy and Paul with Tilly and Cassie
A lovely weekend relaxing and visiting the beach. Even the normally stressy terrier managed to chill out. It was lovely that the dogs could feel as at home as we did. We will be recommending The Lodge to all our doggy friends!
Nikki and Nigel with Lottie and Poppy
Thanks for a superb holiday. You have supplied a fantastic holiday home together with great weather. Restful peace and great places to go. We have had a great time. Thank you John and Jo.
Phil and Lynn
Thank you John, Jo and Ann. What a lovely surprise, this was our first doggy holiday with Monty and we were made so welcome by all. Not knowing the area, the information folder provided was brilliant. We only stayed 3 days this time but next year will definitely come for longer. Many thanks.
Dave, Mags and Monty
We arrived to a wonderful warm welcome. It was enhanced by the welcome pack, the flowers lasted for all our stay. The Lodge is beautifully appointed and tastefully decorated, very warm and comfy. Very good information folder. We had the most fantastic holiday and were blessed with excellent weather. The dogs were in heaven, with lovely walks on various beaches, and their absolute favourite was Bacton Woods. We have all fallen in love with the area and have plans to return. Lovely fresh fish and lobster from Happisburgh and undoubtedly our favourite pub is The Star at Lessingham. Here I had the best liver and bacon ever!! Many thanks.
Sue, Lynn and Tolly
Thank you Jo and John for another wonderful stay in The Lodge, made even better this time by fantastic weather. Your hospitality was fantastic as always.
Jane, Clive and Jack the Greyhound
We really have enjoyed our visit to the Lodge. The weather has been fabulous. The Lodge is beautiful and well equipped, the welcome basket and flowers were most appreciated. We enjoyed walks around the village and the Weavers Way and ventured into nearby villages and Cromer. Barney enjoyed the biscuits so much we bought 4 packets of them. We hope to return in the future.
Kirsty and Colin with Barney
Thank you! We had a glorious week and Toby (spaniel) enjoyed himself and felt very relaxed and "at home". The Lodge is beautifully fitted out and a perfect place to relax. We enjoyed exploring Bacton Woods and had lovely walks on the beach at Cart Gap, followed by lunch at Smallsticks (very good cafe). A trip on Falcon (steam launch) at the Broads Museum is s "must" - great fun and the museum is very interesting! We dined at the Swan at Ingham and had a delicious meal. A very good week - enjoyed by all! We hope to return!
Katherine and Jonathan with Toby
We've had an absolutely lovely week. Very impressed with the Lodge - everything has been thought of and the flowers and welcome basket were a lovely touch. We'll be back it you'll have us! Thanks.
Anita and Tom with Dotti
Well where do we start? 1st thank you for letting us stay at this lovely little lodge. As has been said before, you have thought of everything, the welcome pack, the flowers, Boris loved his biscuits. We could have asked for no more. 2nd, loved our chats with your Mum, a lovely lady, and last but not least with your permission, we will be back, best holiday for us this year. So a big thanks to John and Jo.
Lesley and Andrew with Boris
What a lovely and peaceful holiday for us all. And what a superb place the Lodge is. We were very impressed from the moment we came in the front door for the first time and this feeling did not diminish the whole time we were here. The thought and touches that John and Jo had put into the design is second to none. The welcome pack was a lovely touch. Everything was so perfect for us. Thank you John and Jo. There are lovely walks around the countryside near the Lodge. Other areas we liked were Bacton Woods and the walks along the Weavers Way. We also liked the beach at Happisburgh which is very dog friendly and, at low tide, there is a big expanse of sand for your dog to run around. Can I suggest, though, that you check out the high tides before you go as the sea does come in a long way! Also worth a mention is the Star at Lessingham for a fantastic Sunday roast. Great food and you can take your dog too!
Geoff, Ginny, Hettie and Blue
We have had a fabulous week here at 'The Lodge'. The welcome basket was appreciated; also the flowers were a lovely homely touch. The weather has been amazing so no long walks were done. Been to Happisburgh, Walcott and Sea Palling beaches (dog friendly). Looking forward to visiting you all again next year.
Belinda, Mick and Toffee
Had a lovely week here. The Lodge is really nice and the area great for a holiday. As it was very sunny we didn't do any long walks but the walk into Stalham on the Weavers Way was handy (Doug loved the rabbits). He was also welcomed on the steam railway from Sheringham to Holt (and the main railway from North Walsham) and on the Broads Tours boat from Wroxham Bridge. We liked Sea Palling beach (half dog friendly) and the Star at Lessingham for a convivial atmosphere.
Anne, Chris and Douglas the Westie
Thank you so much Jo and John, we've had a wonderful short break in the perfect Lodge. Next time we'll bring Jack the greyhound - he'll love it too!
Jane and Clive xx
We've had an absolutely lovely Bank Holiday weekend staying in the very comfortable, stylish Lodge. A gorgeous area with beautiful views and easy access to nearby villages. We've enjoyed some lovely walks on the local beaches and Weavers Way and would love to return. Thank you for the hospitality.

We have enjoyed a very comfortable week at the Lodge, with lots of warm and sunny weather. We recommend a round of golf at Cromer and dinner at Bure River Cottage. Harry and Polly recommend the dog treats and watching out for visiting pheasants from the decking!
Ali and Bob
What a fantastic holiday we have had! The weather has been perfect - despite Sahara dust. The Lodge is so comfortable and quiet until my dogs start barking .... sorry. Please, please, pretty please can we come back.
Dawn and Graham with Millie, Charlie and Socks
We have thoroughly enjoyed our short break away at the Lodge, lovely and peaceful, nice and warm and comfortable. Have enjoyed visiting several places; Walcott, the Lighthouse at Happisburgh, the beach and plenty of walking. Thank you for such an enjoyable stay, hopefully be back again next year. Dogs loved their treats and the eggs were really nice. P.S. would recommend visiting the owls at the lighthouse - a real treat.

Thank you for fitting us in at such short notice! The Lodge far exceeded our expectations; it is so well planned and finished with plenty of room for our 3 greyhounds and whippet. We will definitely be back! The area is lovely, the beaches are fantastic, loved the welcome treats and flowers and the dogs say their treats were lovely. Many thanks.
Vicky, Tony and the hounds
What a fantastic stay, we loved The Lodge, great hospitality from Jo and John.
Vicki and Jack
What a wonderfully appointed holiday cabin. 'The Lodge' is very special - what a great bedroom, kitchen (great cooker) and wet room with 'Superloo'! Despite the gales/rain etc. we enjoyed a snuggled-in week (with sunny breaks) - which allowed us to take our 2 Jack Russell pups for muddy walks! Can't wait to come again. Many thanks to Jo and John. P.S. the 'Greeting Basket' was also a lovely touch to begin our week.
Kate and Richard with Joe and Dotty
“we couldn’t have asked for a better location or better, more convenient accommodation! This was a lovely little find where we’ve enjoyed a super holiday with our 3 dogs. Absolutely everything we needed & the totally enclosed garden, side gate & outside shower (with hot water!) has fantastic for the dogs. The welcome pack & lovely flowers were so appreciated on arrival & helped us feel instantly ‘at home’.
We have enjoyed some lovely trips out (Blickling Estate, Sheringham Park, Cromer, Wroxham (Broad), Sea Palling & the dogs favourite - Happisburgh to the lovely little Smallsticks Cafe & although we’re only from Suffolk, found places & areas we didn’t even know about.
If John & Jo will have us, we will definitely be back - we’re so sad to be leaving.”
May 3rd - Hayley, Ian (dog’s Lily, Lucy & Indie)
