The Risbys –

From Left to Right – Andy, Eloise, Lauren, James, Chris, Sandra & Arna the GSD.

Once we started staying with East Ruston Cottages, we were hooked and instantly knew that this was “our” part of the world. After quite a few years of Sandra and Andy holidaying here with Lauren their daughter and her family tagging along, we stumbled across this property and it all just clicked. The main Farmhouse was big enough for our 3 generations, a big field for the dogs to run and the holiday cottages, all the boxes were ticked. So we all sold our houses in Sidcup, Kent and jumped at the move and we haven’t looked back. We love living here every day, it is like a dream come true! Sea Palling and Happisburgh beaches are our favorites, along with The Star Inn or as a special treat, The Gunton Arms for food. We hope whatever cottage you choose, you enjoy the area as much as us!

About the property

All about the inside:

Come in through the double glazed front door (see note below about the great master light switch system!) and this will lead you in to the main open plan living area.

Kitchen area
Open plan with high oak beamed ceiling.  Fully fitted and very well equipped for all your meals. Includes a built-in electric oven, induction hob, microwave, retro fridge freezer (40L freezer), dishwasher and washer/dryer.  Get cooking!

Dining area
Extendable solid oak dining table and chairs – plenty of room for all of you.  Sit and eat or play games together.

Sitting area
Comfy seating with a large smart TV with DAB radio, DVD player and Freeview via a Sky box.  There is a good selection of DVDs, books, magazines, games and information on places to visit locally. From here, the double patio doors lead out on to the large courtyard area, walled and just for the use of  Lighthouse Cottage guests and dogs.  There is access from this to a large communal grassed area.

En-suite Double bedroom
Silver crushed velvet double bed, shabby chic chest of drawers and matching bedside tables.  Antique rack and hook for hanging clothes, with further hooks behind the door.  Double patio doors open out onto the large courtyard.
The traditional sandstone tiled en-suite shower room has a large shower, basin, toilet and heated towel rail.

En-suite Twin bedroom
Silver crushed velvet twin beds, shabby chic chest of drawers and matching bedside tables. Antique rack and hook for hanging clothes, with further hooks behind the door. There are patio doors leading out to the large courtyard.
The traditional sandstone tiled en-suite shower room has a large shower, basin, toilet and heated towel rail.

Heating
Under floor heating, gas central heating and solar power. There are thermostats in the kitchen to help adjust the temperature.

All about the outside:

The courtyard is walled and gated for your use (4ft high) and from here you can access a safe, well kept and enclosed communal grassed area with the boundary of 6-8ft.  There is a comfy table set, parasol and a gas barbecue.

Beyond the parking area and separate to the cottages is a dedicated enclosed large paddock for guest use.  Very big, well cared for and secure, with a warm doggy shower to use too and enclosed sitting area.

There is plenty of parking on our dedicated and enclosed gravel car park.  From here just a ramp or two small steps will lead you to your cottage door.

Will this property suit my dogs?

The immediate outside area is a courtyard so it will be possible to hear other dogs and people (and see them over the top of the wall) but they are secure areas and a good size and if your dogs are sociable and not worried by others, it will be ideal for them.  What is great for many dogs is the separate paddock just a few steps away from the cottage – it’s huge and well fenced all round with a warm shower area and seating too!

Please note:

  • We ask that you do not smoke in our cottage.
  • If you would like your dog to join you on your bed, please let us know and bring your own bedding.
  • Check in is from 4pm, check out by 09.30am.
  • Electric car and bike charging is NOT available at this property.
  • Electric wheelchair charging is permitted – please do let us know so we can advise the best place to do this.
  • We do have to ask that dogs are not left unattended without being crated.
  • The cottage has a great system of  master light switches. At the front door there is a switch that will turn off all the lighting throughout the property, as well as controlling the opening plan living areas individually. Each bedroom has its own master switch where the bedroom lights can be controlled.
  • Shop: 2.5 miles in the small town of Stalham.  Pub: 1.5 miles Lessingham Star
  • Tesco, Morrison’s, Sainsbury, Asda and Waitrose all deliver to our cottage. Please ensure you are here to accept your delivery.

To Happisburgh beach and back

Across the fields to the Star Inn

Accessibility

The front door has a low profile tread. The patio doors leading out from both bedrooms and living area have a small tread and 1 step on to the paved patio. A ramp is available on request. Both bathrooms have showers with a low profile tread.

Patio doors open straight onto a large, well kept patio which leads straight to a grassed area for the dogs. Very Safe environment for the dogs. Beautiful views. Sea Palling is a must visit, beautiful dog friendly beach with restaurants and WC facilities. Excellent value for money. Will definitely be back.” – Alison

“We stayed in Light House Cottage for four nights. The attention to detail by the owners was outstanding- stylish and practical. Very dog friendly. In a nutshell it was just perfect for us. Near to several beautiful beaches and close to Bacton Wood. 5 stars. We cannot wait to go back there.” – Lisa

“Even with the worse whether we have ever had in 20 years, we still had a wonderful relaxing time. We really do not want to go home, one if not the best dog friendly accommodation we have ever had. We will be back. 5 stars!” – Alison, Paul, Charlie and Bear

“We had a wonderful weeks holiday 3 generations 11, 12, 62, 79 and 82 plus 3 dogs, the cottage was lovely and had everything we could possibly need and things we hadn’t realised we wanted. The welcome package for humans and dogs were brilliant so thoughtful. The atmosphere was very peaceful and lovely to sit out on the patio and the fenced off paddock for the dogs to run about in is great, wish we had one close by at home….
We used Cart cap beach as we found it was the easiest for those of us slightly more unstable on our feet to go down to. Also the beach is very dog friendly (although ours never went as 2 of them are terrified of water) and happier staying at home with one of use out on the patio soaking up the sun. To be honest we didn’t do much sight seeing as the weather was so hot all week it was lovely just to be on the beach or the patio.
Look forward to hopefully booking up for another visit, So thank you so much for an amazing place that makes dogs and humans feel so welcome.” – Jill and dogs

“Totally great – we did not expect such faultless accommodation.  Everything we could possibly need was catered for!  Quality of everything far exceeded what we had expected.  Having 3 labs has become much easier as we have discovered our dream destination here. We love it here and so do our dogs.” –Phil, Vicky and Pups
