Do you want to go car free on holiday?

Leave the car in the drive for a car free holiday!

Driving places on holiday can sometimes be a bit of a nightmare - not knowing where to park, not knowing how to get to places easily, finding you have to pay for parking. So if you fancy the sound of a car free holiday, where you can walk to most of the places you will need, then this is the blog post for you!

(c) Visit The Broads

Winterton

  • Lots of beach and acres of dunes for running and sniffing. No restrictions all year round.
  • Really good for reactive dogs as you can stay well away from other dogs as there is SO much room on the beach and the miles of dunes.
  • Some great circular walks inland too along easy farmland tracks.
  • The area of dunes to the south of the car park is know as the Valley and takes you past some funny little 'Hobbit' houses which are part of the Hermanus holiday camp (which also has a dog friendly restaurant).
  • Dog friendly pub The Fishermans Return
  • Fish and chip shop in the village too  - both an easy walk.
  • Great village shop and post office which also has a little dog friendly cafe - Poppys - attached and sells take away cakes and coffee too.
  • There is now also a trailer cafe on the beach car park selling hot and cold drinks and some good hot and cold food. Great after a long beach walk! Seal View has a great Facebook page so you can find out more.

  • Pop into the Pink Palace arcade for a bit of nostalgic fun.
  • If you aren't a sea swimming fan, you can always pop to the Oasis Pool for a swim.
  • You can walk to Winterton from here – another lovely dog friendly village – along the beach.
  • If you do the walk to Winterton, you also pass through Hemsby which has loads of amenities too! The Lacon Arms has a dog friendly section, and there are loads of arcades, crazy golf, rides, fast food/ice cream places.

Walcott

  • Walk to nearby Walcott with its very dog-friendly pub, the Poacher’s Pocket
  • A little further along the coast The Lighthouse Inn is very dog welcoming and all ERC guests have a 10% discount card to use here.
  • Nearby cafes – Kingfisher Cafe and Watson’s are dog welcoming.
  • Cafe Carmel is the best vegan café for miles around (dog welcoming) and is very well worth a visit, vegan or not!
  • Two well stocked village shops, fish and chips and a Chinese takeaway all a short walk away!
  • There has recently been a multi million pound sandscaping project which has built the sand up on the beach and changed it to a really wonderful, high level of sand with low breakwaters.
  • As of November 2023 there is now a secure dog park, right opposite The Lighthouse Inn!  Another great dog friendly addition to the area!  Walcott Dog Park
